This week we'll go with GURPS. Creating a character for the modern horror campaign I never managed to get off the ground. I had allowed for 100 pt. characters with 50 pts of disadvantages and a 50 pt bonus that could only be applied to the characters "gift". spoonyone had been planning on a ex-firefighter loosely based on Cage in Bringing Out the Dead and Dennis Leary in Rescue Me...

So I'll adapt over one of my CoC concepts, a "fake" psychic and junkie who actually DOES have psychic powers...

Charlie "Lo Fan" Wong runs seances, fortune telling and similar scams. Where his "fake" predictions are too often right. Plus he suffers from nightmares of strange and horrible places and beings. All of which he tries to muffle with booze and drugs...

IQ: 13 (-60)
Health: 11 (-10)
Will: 13 + 5: 18 (-25)
Perception: 13 + 4: 17 (-20)
Hit Points: 11
Fatigue Points: 11 + 3: 14 (-9)
Base Speed: 5.25
Dodge: 8
Basic Move: 5

Total Points: 124

Build: Skinny (+5)
Wealth: Struggling (+10). Charlie actually pulls in a decent income as a psychic. But he spends a great deal of it on his vices...
Reputation: -3 for local police. (+5)

Total Points: -20

Advantages: We'll come back to this, since it will be part of the 50 points NOT calculated in the regular 100/50 pts...

Disadvantages: Nightmares (+5), Alcoholism (+15), Addiction: Nicotine, Phantom Voices: Annoying (+5)

Total Points: -30

SUB-TOTAL: 124 - 50 = 26

Skills: Starting skills that I want to improve for this character would be Acting (8), Body Language (7), Computer Operation (9), Current Affairs (9), Detect Lies (11), Fast Talk (8), Fotune Telling (8), Occultism (8) and Streetwise (8). First we'll bump up the Easy skills; Computer Operation and Current Affairs. Attribute +1 is 2 points, so both will go to 14. For Average; Acting, Body Language, Fast-Talk, Fortune Telling, Occultism and Streetwise; Attribute-1 is 1 point. So 6 points will bring them all up. Acting (12), Body Language (15), Detect Lies (16), Fast-Talk (12), Fortune Telling (12), Occultism (12) and Streetwise (12). Detect Lies is Hard and so bringing it up 16 costs 2 points. This still leaves the character with 14 unspent points. So we'll raise Occultism up to 16 (IQ+3) for another 11 points. We'll leave those last 3 points unspent for now. And a quick break before tackling the 50 point "gift"...
