Doctor Who

Just finished marathoning the last season of new Doctor Who- it's what Five? in the new count?  Which baffled me big time when it originally aired.  I've been watching DW since Four hit the US airwaves- literally, I caught the last five minutes of 'Planet of the Spiders' during an OPB marathon, went WTF?! and have been watching ever since- and last I knew there were 26 season and one movie.

Fandom put me off the series for a while, what with all the Rose!love, She Who is the Best Companion Ever- I beg to differ but that's a different post.  Finally got around to watching it around season three, with Martha, who some say is the Bestest Ever, but that? Another post.  Possibly the same one.  Anyway, backtracked, caught up, then wandered off around the time the movies came out and the Doctor went off the rails.

I liked Tennant, who did an excellent job as the Doctor but that wasn't my Doctor.  Four was my First and he's who I compare everyone else to.  He's fun, mad, and jonesing for adventure all shellacked over with a thin coating of arrogance.

Eleven is back to that; he's over the man!pain, it's still a sore subject as it should be, and 'Doctor Who' is fun again.  Little Darker than what I consider to be Doctor Who but that's okay.  Adjusting to the times and all that.

I adore the nods to previous Doctors scattered through the series.  ::hearts:: That montage at the end of 'The Eleventh Hour' got rewound a few times, yes indeedy.  And I may have squealed at the "Got any celery?" line.  Maybe.  ::shifty eyes::  They even worked in the Valeyard! ::chairdances::

The companion is great, too- she wandered a little too close to Mary Sue territory in the beginning but that (mostly) straightened out.  She's smart, unafraid of the Doctor, is willing to yell at him when that ego of his needs it and is great at getting the exposition started.  That's what companions are for, the exposition... and the rescuing.  He rescues her, she rescues herself, whichever.  I hope she sticks around for a while.

I'm also hoping for Eleven to meet up with previous Doctors, because he doesn't get along with himself in ways that are highly entertaining.  I'm praying for it to be Ten, because Eccleston needs more screentime and, frankly, it would be funny as hell.  Bring Rose.  I don't hate her, really.

Not that I'm expecting it, since Moffat has stated that no previous companions will turn up.  Fine with me; they hardly ever used to anyway.  But can we have Jack?  That'd be a crossover!  He's got his own show!  Well, had his own show.  Is it still being filmed?  ::pokes TV.com::

Anyway, I have high hopes for season six. ::crosses fingers::

Also, took me a bit to get used to Matt Smith's looks but he's adorable.  And just what is it with the new Doctors and hair?  Each time he regenerates, he's got more. ::amused::
