Lureen Newsome Twist passed on Tuesday. She died of breast cancer at the age of fifty four, after battling the disease for four years.
Twist was well-known in the Childress area. She has been the owner and manager of Newsome Farm and Tractor, Inc. for the past seventeen years, making a name for herself in the industry, and expanding the company as far as northern Colorado. Newsome Farm and Tractor has been a financial anchor in the small city of Childress since its inception nearly sixty years ago by Loren Newsome, Twist's father.
Twist lost her husband of seventeen years in 1983 when he was the victim of a brutal murder. At that time she became the single mother of their son, Robert, who was sixteen years old at the time.
Twist was the recipient of countless awards to recognize female civic leaders and businesspeople. A 1964 graduate of the University of Texas- Austin with degrees in Economics and Business, and a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, the nation's oldest coeducational professional business fraternity.
She is survived by her son, Robert Twist, thirty one, and his wife Heather, thirty.
