Characters: Luke/Reid
Disclaimer: As the World Turns and it's characters are not mine, no matter how much I enjoy playing with them. :)
Summary: Luke is in car accident on the way home from a business trip. Reid saves him in more ways than one.
Author's Notes: So, this was sort of inspired by
sripley's "It's the What If Factor." I was re-reading it, reveling in her ability to change up the story so awesomely and still keep it true to the characters, and thought to myself, I can do that. So this is me trying another take on the the Luke/Reid relationship with a different beginning, and we'll see where we end up. Story starts in January 2010. If it isn't said enough, the medical stuff I am making up as I go.
You guys....I just love you guys. This is it. The last chapter of Fate. I had no idea when I started writing/posting this story, how it was going to go. I appreciate every and all of your comments, even if I didn't reply. And to those who helped me spam my comment wall, you rock! :)

33 “I should have known you’d find me.” Luke said, glancing at Reid as he approached him. Luke was perched on top of his car, staring down along the side of the freeway. It was practically deserted, only the occasional car going by.
“It was obvious, once I thought about the date.”
“You are brilliant that way.”
“You know it.” Reid smiled and sat down next to him on the car’s bumper.
“Right over there is where my life changed.” Luke said.
“Mine too.” Reid agreed, slipping his arm around Luke’s waist and pulling Luke against his side. Luke rested his chin on Reid’s shoulder, nuzzling Reid’s cheek with his nose.
“Any regrets?”
“Nope.” Reid kissed him gently. Luke pulled back after a second, an impish grin on his face.
“I got a text from Jade this morning.” Luke told him.
“Kissing cousin Jade?”
“You’re never going to let that die, are you?”
“God, no.” Reid smiled. “I’ve got a good ten to fifteen more years of use out of that one.” He paused as Luke groaned.
“Tell me why I agreed to this again?”
“Because you love me.” Reid said. “And I don’t take no for an answer. What did Jade want?”
“She’s coming today.” Luke smiled back at Reid. “She was able to get the time off work at the last minute, and Grandmother sent the jet for her.”
“I get to meet the infamous Jade?”
“Yep.” Luke nodded. “She thinks you’re hot, by the way.”
“That’s because I am.” Luke was silent for a moment.
“Can I say something incredibly cheesy without you torturing me with it for the rest of our lives?”
“I make no promises.” Luke glared playfully.
“I was just thinking that everything that happened right here, last year…it seemed like such a coincidence at the time. You were the one here when I went off the road - a doctor of all people, and a brain surgeon on top of it - and the more I think about it…”
“Luke?” Reid cut him off. “Just spit it out.”
“The way we met.” Luke said. “Everything that happened when we got together, how it all worked out - it was like it was meant to be. Like Fate had a hand in it.”
“You’re right, that was cheesy.” Luke bumped Reid’s shoulder with his own.
“Do you think they’ll mind if we’re late?” Reid laughed.
“Well, they can’t get started without us.”
“That’s very true.” Luke laughed along with him.
“What did you have in mind?” Reid asked passing his eyes over Luke suggestively. Luke felt his face burn, and marveled at how the older man could still make him feel that way.
“I just think this place needs a new memory.”
“Is that so?” Reid leered at him, and Luke grinned. “You realize that ‘parking’ is illegal.”
“It’ll be fine.” Luke answered, and then leaned against Reid to whisper conspiratorially. “I know people.”
“You planned this, didn’t you, Brat?” Luke shrugged innocently. He slid down from the hood of the car
“Like you care.” Luke moved so that he was standing in front of Reid, running his hands along Reid’s waist. “You’re totally into it.” Reid’s breath caught in his throat, and he had a half smile on his face. He checked his watch.
“We have fifteen minutes.”
“I can do it if you can.”

Luke saw his mother pacing in front of the church as they pulled into the parking lot.
“Luke, honey, we were starting to get worried!” She exclaimed as he got out of the car. Reid was still in his car, retying his tie.
“I know, I’m sorry.” Luke said, letting her fuss over him. “We just had to make a stop.”
“Just about everyone’s here already.” Lily touched his cheek gently. Their relationship wasn’t the same as before, and it had taken a lot of time, but eventually Luke had forgiven his mother. Lily had only been doing what she thought was best, even if Luke didn’t agree with her methods. Reid joined them after a moment.
“We should get inside.” Reid suggested.
“I’ll go in and let them know we’re ready to start.” Lily volunteered.
“Thanks, Mom.”
“You ready to do this?” Reid asked, as she walked away.
“I am now.” Luke answered, taking Reid’s hand and pulling him towards the church.
Reid let Luke pull him inside, where everyone was waiting for them. As they walked in, ready to pledge their lives to each other, Reid thought about what Luke said earlier and allowed that maybe he was right.
Maybe it was Fate.
