Reid slowly lowered himself into a chair at Java. His muscles ached a little from sleeping in a hotel chair the previous night. From over the rim of his mug he saw a blond woman trying to calm her crying baby in it's push chair. She looked up at him, and walked over to his table.

"You're a doctor?" She sounded tired, she looked it too.

Reid looked down at the scrubs he was wearing, "No," he said flatly.

"Can you look at my baby?" The woman asked ignoring his comment.

"Do I have to?"

"You're a doctor it's your job!"

"Are we at a hospital?" Reid looked around the room, "No, we are in a coffee shop, where I am currently not on duty."

"Fine, whatever. Come on Jacob, let's find you a real doctor."

Reid grimaced at the blow to his ego, he sighed heavily before standing up, "Okay, I'll look at your baby. What seems to be the problem?"

The woman, Katie as he soon found out, explained what had been wrong with her son, and Reid told her it was just an ear infection and just needed antibiotics.

"So you're new here?" Katie asked as they both sat down at Reid's table again. The doctor nodded in affirmation, "How're you liking Oakdale?"

"I don't," Reid answered, his voice getting slightly higher, "As soon as I finish with my case here I will be leaving the town that time forgot, and going home so I don't have to stay at a hotel again anytime soon."

"Not a fan of hotels?" Katie asked holding in a laugh.

"They're germ farms, speaking of which, so's your kid," the surgeon stood quickly.

"You know you don't have to stay at a hotel," the woman was smiling at him, he knew at that moment if he were straight he wouldn't waste a second with her.

"What are you saying?"

"Why don't you move in with me?"

"Mr Snyder, you're late," Reid said as he shut the door to the exam room behind him as Luke slid up to sit on the end of the bed, his legs dangling over the edge.

"I'm sorry, it's kinda hard to know where you're going when you can't see," Luke replied, only half joking.

"You have a boyfriend, and I hear a pretty big family. You shouldn't have to be going through this by yourself," despite his words Reid kept his professional, detached tone as he spoke.

"I don't want to bother my family, they'd only worry and I don't want that. As for Noah we hardly speak anymore, he feels guilty about my accident, he thinks it's better for me if he kept his distance," Luke spoke quietly and Reid could hear the sadness in his voice.

"Noah sounds like an idiot."

"You don't know him," Luke said defensively.

"I don't, and I don't particularly care to." There was a long awkward silence as Reid finished reviewing Luke's chart. "Okay, I'm just going to check your eyes with a penlight." The doctor stepped closer to his patient and stepped to the side to avoid the other mans legs. He leaned forward slightly to check one eye closely. Luke could barely feel the doctors breath on his cheek, but could sense the man was close; he let himself smile a little. Reid used a gentle finger on Luke's chin to turn his head to face him. Once Reid had checked the other eye he stepped away. Luke's smiled dropped; he missed the warmth from the other man.

"So when do you think you can do the surgery?" Luke asked sounding surprisingly casual.

"Hopefully in a week or two."

Luke paused for a moment before adding, "I really want to know what you look like."

Reid opened his mouth to respond but before he had the chance a man crashed into the room. "Who the hell are you?"

"Noah. I'm Noah."
