You saw it! I really, really want to go this afternoon after work but today it's suddenly freezing outside and I just want to be bundled up at home. Still, I think I can brave the cold for Eric.
I am either going to tonight with my husband or tomorrow with my daughter. I'm just so excited to see him on the big screen again! I haven't been much for horror movies since I was in my early 20s, but I wouldn't miss this for the world!
I did see it! I saw it opening weekend with my daughter and her friend. Because some idiot put the "twist" in his review on Fandango when I went to buy tickets, I knew what it was. That made the movie decidedly less scary. I still really enjoyed it, though. I thought Eric and Elizabeth Olsen were great!
There's nothin' better than ESS on a big screen! That hair, those eyes, those hands and fingers! Guh! There weren't too many people in the cinema I went to....just as well because because my flailing didn't seem to bother anyone! ;) I'm thinking about going again to actually pay attention, but I can't seem to figure out when I have time to do so....
I think I might go watch it again too. What'd you think of his role, though? I'm getting shivers over how creepy he and the dad were. In a way, I'm glad the house wasn't actually haunted because I hate those types of films, supernatural and all that. This one was psychological, and those I really enjoy. I was glad she didn't kill him but my niece is, like, "oh, he'll probably bleed to death so he's gonna die anyway" :(
MORE SPOILING TALK BELOW!!Your niece is a real hard ass!! That made me chuckle when I read that. When I came out of the movie, I was thinking, "Uh oh, he's gut shot and doesn't have cell service!" But that never stops me from hoping

I actually liked it from the beginning, probably as soon as ESS opened the door to the house to greet Sarah and the dad. LOL!
I saw you mentioned that you had a different interpretation of the end over at the Noah Who comm--is that the part of the end you're referring to here? Curious to know what it is but let me know when/if you rewatch. I think I might go watch it again this weekend. I want to see what I missed and also, I want to help any film of Eric's. :D
Don't worry about posting about the entire film; this is what this post is for; there's a warning for a reason. But yeah, feel free to talk all you want.
I attended an early screening of this last week and the reaction from those that exited the theater when I did was overall negative. One woman even said to me, "At least it was free."
My friend who went with me, who knows nothing of my interest in LuRe and ESS said of ESS's character, Uncle Peter that he was creepy and like a pedophile. This was at the very beginning when he commented on how grown up Sarah had become.
I personally don't enjoy scary movies, but this one was different and not what I expected because it was psychological. I thought it was alright upon initial reaction, but it's one of the movies that one starts to like more upon further reflection. And as others have mentioned here, it's one of those that you may want to see again to see if you missed any clues.
I really thought that they did a terrific job with the filming especially since it's a series of a few long shots. My friend and I were especially impressed by the opening where Sarah is outside at the lake and later when she's running outside and the scenes of Peter and Sarah going from room to room
I enjoyed ESS' opening scene and greeting. For a moment there it reminded me of Reid from the scene when he goes to the lilypad to see Luke and enters saying he's been looking for him. He did the head bob thing. :)
The filming was well done, the camera work, I mean. I agree.
I didn't see the head bob; must go see again. :)
Yeah, it's not a film for everyone; I think most people expect a Paranormal Activity type of supernatural film so they're disappointed. I myself enjoy these thrillers that don't deal with the unknown and stuff so I did enjoy it (and not just because ESS is in it though that's obviously a bonus for us all).
For just a brief second, he does the hand shake thing in his first shot (I missed that the first time I saw it). I practically starting screaming (in a happy way) when I saw that!!!
I enjoyed the movie. But a rewatch is definitely needed/wanted now that I know what happened so I can piece it all together and catch hints I missed the first time through. I can actually see myself rewatching it a few times. Eric and Elizabeth were both great

Don't you think he took the pictures and didn't actually abuse her like Dad did? I think Dad was always a bully. Peter was weak. However, I did wonder how (why) he was so weak at that point and yet strong enough to reenter a house with an intruder. Maybe he was just too young? I don't know. What do you think?
I thought about this and think that maybe he didn't actually abuse her; that'd explain why she didn't whack him at the end. The dad also said something about Peter liking to "watch" when he's hitting Sarah so maybe Peter really only took the pictures.
This was my take. I think that when Peter was begging for his life at the end, he said that he only watched, but that he was sorry and he knows that he should have stopped it. John is older than Peter, obviously a bully. I thought that Peter was protective of Sarah while going through the house. The "you're all grown up" at the beginning was a little creepy but I didn't see that creepiness at the end.
I can see Peter being more timid when he was younger and influenced by his brother. Good point about taking the photos. It's plausible that he may have participated that way.
