It’s not that he can’t or that he won’t but he just does not know how to carry on. He does not know how he fell so deep or what about Luke that made him, well, that made him this. He know he’s a shell of what he previously was and it could and it should upset him but it doesn’t; he just needs to know that they have something worth fighting for.
There are things that are worth it and then there’s us.
People would cringe at the idea of them being together, people would throw stones. People would corn Luke in a corner, shouting, “it’s Doctor Oliver for fuck sakes” and Luke will listen and Luke will still want him but it would not matter because one battered eye-lash from Noah and this- whatever the hell this is, whatever the fuck Luke want- is all that takes for death to be seem like the best option yet.
He deletes his screensaver, he deletes his messages. He drains his memory with alcohol and he grumps his day away and when someone mentions love, when someone hold hands, when someone looks as though their thinking of something, it ticks this doctor to off.
This is an addiction- these feeling, this person, these thoughts- an addiction he doesn’t know how to shake.
