Mod Post.

Oi oi! I AM NOT DEAD.

First off, let me apologize for being virtually non-existent here at lure_atwt. As some of you who have friended me personally probably know, I was (and frankly, still am) very bitter about the way As The World Turns ended, particularly with the way the Luke/Reid storyline was handled. That bitterness led me to all but swear off ( Read more... )

First of all: yes, you're the mods and can obviously establish whatever rules you want in your comm. I'm really just trying to understand a) why this exclusionist approach is necessary at this point (there aren't that many posts a day anymore) and b) why RPS fic is somehow "more" LuRe than post-death fic. I would've imagined they'd both have to be posted elsewhere after the latest guideline post.

Now, I don't tend to read either of both those fic categories, and I'm not even a writer, but this stupid flash of "this is unfair" that I got behind my eyes just won't go away (and I don't think anyone on my 100% non-LuRe flist would care, so I'm commenting here). Wouldn't it be more just to let everyone post their (however) Luke/Reid related fics here and just enforce a stricter warning policy?
I'm sure everyone has some fic that's just not their cup of tea, but scrolling past those entries, at least to me, is easier than joining new comms and, for the authors, they wouldn't lose the readership that they've gained here. The show is long gone and the fact is that we were dealt a shitty hand at the end, but I don't see an advantage of splitting this fandom up even more.

I'd really appreciate any further clarification on the matter that you could give me.

(Written on my phone, so I'll blame any lack of coherence and typos on that...)

i you read the entry with care you notice that the mod loves rpf but likes to pretend that the train thing did not happen. ergo post-train fic bad, rpf good

I don't really feel passionately on either side of this issue, but I do have to say that I think you're wrong here. This is what she said above about RPS:

But seeing as lure_atwt is kind of the hub for fic (no offense intended to LRO), most people come here first to read stories, and a lot of them do like the imagined idea of Van and Eric getting hot under the collar personally, while playing out those scenes as Luke and Reid. So, that being said, I'm going to say that RPS is acceptable to post. My one caveat regarding RPS: if you're writing about Van and Eric getting steamy for each other playing roles other than Luke and Reid, it shouldn't be here.

So there are rules around this type of fic as well.

I don't believe the mods are saying that post-train fics are bad. I think what the mods mean is that they don't want fics here where Reid dies (or they break up, etc) and then Luke starts another relationship with someone else (or Reid starts a relationship with someone else), because then it isn't a Luke/Reid fic anymore, that's all. :) At least, that is how I understand it.

Yes, I like RPF/RPS, but that's not the reason I originally said it could be posted here (see edited entry). More than one author writes that type of story, and I can certainly read it elsewhere.

In hindsight, my logic didn't jibe with the rules, and so I've edited accordingly.

I also have no problem with post-death!Reid fic. I've read some absolutely stunning fic dealing with Luke's grief and his struggle to move on. I don't pretend that "the train thing didn't happen." That's a fact of canon, and like it or not, we have to live with it.

I would not allow a particular kind of fic simply because I enjoy it personally, and I take offense to the allusion that I would.

Moerlin, you took the thoughts right out of my head. I agree with you 100%.

I just wanted to say thank you for your PM. As I said, I'm only human and I make mistakes.

I appreciate you sharing your point of view with me in a way that was non-confrontational. (You have no idea how much I appreciate that.)

I agree with you in your viewpoint of RPS, and have since edited the post to say that RPS will not be allowed either.

Thank you again.

No worries, I totally understand where you're coming from. Once upon a time I was a mod on a very active forum about a TV show (that shall not be named because you'd all laugh at me :D). Fun times, sometimes for real, sometimes not so much. ;)

I'm actually all for RPS (and all other fic that can somehow be related to Luke/Reid) being posted here, but I guess this way the rules are more clear-cut and make more sense. :)
