Speaking as someone that has watched House from its very beginning, yeah, Reid was pretty much thought of because of House, LOL. He's daytime TV's version of Dr. Gregory House.

Definitely. Whoever created Reid is clearly a huge House fan. It's cool, because Reid didn't change into a lovestruck schmoophy mess with Luke, like it could be argued House changed with Cuddy.

Reid also reminds me of Dr. Cox from Scrubs :)

To be honest, when I saw Reid for the first time, I thought he was the love child of House and Brian Kinney. I still think the parallels are there, but I do think that the writers (thankfully) have given canon!Reid enough to be able to stand on his own. And while I certainly wouldn't be surprised if JP saw an episode of House and thought, "hey, let's make Noah's doctor cranky," I think they created Reid to provide for some comic relief and feed the Nuke drama machine. I don't know if any ATWT sources have claimed anything different, but watching the early episodes, I think making Luke his love interest was kind of an afterthought - I actually doubt they charactarized him as gay until shortly before the scene at Katie's. In any case, the "jerk with a heart of gold," "socially awkward scientist," and "rude but brilliant doctor" themes aren't anything new - I think Reid might have been modeled after other characters/stereotypes, but I don't necessarily see him as a House ripoff. Of course, most of that should probably be attributed to ( ... )

he def reminded me of brian kinney as well....i mean, all 3 characters have this sarcasm/arrogance thing going on. (and its odd that they're the characters i like so much, because in real life, i am sure i would be turned off by it)

while watching house though, it was like he spoke LIKE reid, except...he's not reid. LMAO (yay for making sense) so thats why i'm kind of convinced house was an inspiration for the character of reid.

I think I actually see more of BK in Reid, especially personality-wise: they are both so driven, self-assured, and unapologetic, and then you have the self-defense mechanisms, and the fear of commitment, and the way they they'd do anything for the people they love. I could go on and on, really.

I to sometimes thought once or twice that Reid reminded me of Brian Kinney. Like the scene where he told Luke he was gay and Luke asked why he never told him a the beginning and he said something that reminded me of what Brian told Justin about why his parents dont know he's gay.

Eric was told Reid was gay during the audition process so it was not a characteristic they decided to give him right before the scene at Katie's. According to him, it was one of the reasons he took the role. It looks like the Katie/Reid stuff was meant to be a deflection so the audience wouldn't peg him as a love interest for Luke right away.

In addition, there were rumors that Noah's doctor would have a thing for Luke long before Reid aired. I remember reading the rumor around November when I was checking out spoilers for Simon's return so I don't think Reid being a love interest was an afterthought. I don't think they were initially intending to take it as far as they did, however.
