“How’d you know where to find me?” Rose asked, hearing footsteps and turning around to see who was coming.
“Your dad called my house looking for you.” Lorenzo said, sitting down in the grass next to her. “I figured you’d be here. You love this place way too much.”
They stared out at the water of Snyder Pond, neither of them speaking for a long moment.
“Is it really so awful, Rosie, that Luke is your biological father?” She choked out a laugh.
“No.” Rose ran her hands through the grass, and then drew her feet up to her to her chest, wrapping her arms around her legs. “Do you know how many times over the years I wished for this, for Luke to be my read dad?” She whispered.
“So, go home and tell him that.”
“He lied to me my whole life, Ren.”
“And maybe he had a good reason.”
“There’s never a good reason to lie to your kid.”
“You won’t know unless you go home and ask.”
“How do you know I didn’t?” She looked at him. He flashed her a sad smile.
“Because I know you. You overreacted and then stormed out.”
“Shut up.” Rose glared. “I feel stupid.”
“Why?”
“I didn’t even let him get a word in edgewise.”
“You’ll never know the truth unless you go home and find out.”
“When did you get so smart?” Rose bumped her shoulder into his playfully, and he grinned.
“We can’t all be geniuses.” He said, tugging on her hair. “But I do have my moments.”
“You sure do.” Rose bit her lip, blushing as she realized she’d said that aloud. Something lit up in Lorenzo’s eyes and they stared at each other. He raised his hand and stroked her cheek lightly and she blushed harder if that was possible.
He looked terrified but determined as he leaned in and kissed her.

Luke clenched his cell phone in his fist, praying that Rose would call or come home.
He couldn't believe it had all gone like this.
Reid had been telling him for years to tell Rose, and Luke had kept putting it off.
Now he was paying for it and so was Rose. He sighed, closing his eyes. He could hear Zoe's mocking laugh ringing in his ears, still feel her fingers on his skin after all this time.
He hated it.
He didn't want anyone else's touch on his skin but Reid's.
The man in question slipped his arms around Luke's waist from behind, his chin coming to rest on Luke's shoulder.
“Anything?” Luke shook his head. “She's a good girl, Luke. She won't do anything stupid.”
“You mean like I did when I was her age?”
“That's not what I meant and you know it.”
“It's still true.” Luke sighed. “I was a very stupid teenager.”
“You were in a lot of pain and you didn't know how to deal with it.”
“And now I've done the same thing to Rose. I tried so hard to keep something like this from happening.”
“You did what you thought was best.” Reid said. “I supported your decision. I'm as much to blame for this mess as you are.”
“But you're not her father, Reid.” The minute the words slipped out of his mouth, Luke knew they were a mistake. He bit his lip as Reid's arms fell away and his husband backed up.
“Well.” Reid's tongue darted out in it's familiar motion, barely touching his lip, and Luke could see the hurt radiating in his husband's eyes.
“Reid, that's not...” Luke started to say, choking on his words. “You're just as much her father as I am.”
“I think I'll go look for Rosie.” Reid told him, a hard edge to his tone that was only there when he and Luke fought.
Luke feel tears pricking at the corners of his eyes.
He nodded, because after that, what else could he do?
“I'll call you if she calls me.”
“I'm going to kiss my son good night and then I'll go.” Luke didn't miss the possessive tone Reid used in reference to Gus.
Once Reid had gone upstairs, Luke sank down onto the couch.
How had everything gotten so fucked up in such a short time?
