“Oh, you don’t need to call me Mr. Snyder, Luke is fine.”

“Mr. Snyder, my staff has informed me that you have called me close to three dozen times.”

“Yes, yes, um, I have. I’m calling about Noah Mayer.”

“I’ve seen his file.”

“You have! Great. When do you think you can get to Oakdale for a consultation?”

“Umm, let me see, how about…never.”

“I’m sorry?”

“Do you have any idea who I am?”

Reid could not believe that never had actually approached. He was pulling up to Memorial hospital to have a consult with Noah Mayer, a blind film student. He laughed to himself at the thought of how ridiculous this was, then again, he was just going to do this consultation and then get his ass back onto the first flight out of this hole in ground town and back to his life in Dallas. He had never promised anything more than that and then the dirt, whatever dirt it was, that Mr. Snyder had dug up on him would disappear.

Reid pulled his wallet out of his back pocket and handed some money to the cab driver and asked him to wait outside considering this meeting would not last very long. The last thing he wanted was to have to stand outside, most likely to be cornered by Mr. Snyder and forced to stay longer than he needed to be. He was going to need a get-away car to escape this town.

Reid walked through the hallways of what they called a hospital. He had Noah’s file in his hand that he had been able to further review on the flight, when he wasn’t seething over the fact that some kid had blackmailed him into coming to look at his best friend. He turned the corner, trying to find the room that Mr. Snyder had told him Mr. Mayer would be in when he saw him.

“Dr. Oliver, you made it, I cannot thank you enou-“

“We both know why I am here lets not pretend this is a normal consult.” Reid replied, he dismissed Mr. Snyder’s out stretched hand as he stared at the blonde with a disdained look in his eye.

“Look, I'm sorry, I just felt as if- ”

“You felt like you could blackmail me. How much did it cost to get dirt on me, Mr. Snyder.”

“I- I didn’t want to do it this way. You see- s”

“What I see is the big fat silver spoon in your mouth, that frankly, I hope you choke on.”

Reid watched at the blonde kid in front of him sputtered trying to get a word out.

“Do you have any idea how many patients have wanted to ‘jump the line’ but were not as lucky enough to have blue blood running through their veins. What makes” Reid looked down at the file in his hand “Mr. Mayer more important than the others.”

“Well, he’s not, but he’s just the only person I care about who needs you.”

“Well I’m here, thanks to you and your father’s corporate jet, where is he.”

“He’s on his way, I called him the minute I heard you were on the flight.”

“Great, he’s not even here yet.” Reid said shaking his head. “Mr. Snyder, I have a ticket for the next commercial flight out of here so if he’s not here, than I think I’ll be going.”

Just then Luke attention jerked and Reid could only guess that the tall brunette with the walking cane was Mr. Mayer. There was a blonde girl accompanying him over to himself and Luke.

“Noah!” Luke called over he gave a polite smile to the blonde girl. “Noah, Dr. Oliver’s here and he’s mad.”

“Dr. Oliver?”

“Fifteen minutes.” Reid responded as he walked into the empty consult room grabbing Mr. Mayer’s arm. “Alone.”

Luke’s mouth went agape before he turned his attention to the blonde girl.

“Hey.” Luke said, a smile creeping across his face.

“So, you actually got the doctor here to look at Noah.”

“Yeah, I can’t believe it worked.”

“I hope that he can help him.” She said, returning Luke’s growing smile as she walked closer to him. Luke pulled her into a hug squeezing her tight.

“I hope that Noah can convince him to stay and perform the surgery.” Luke said, he pulled her tight into his body, his chin resting on the top of her head.

“You’ve done all you can do for now.” She responded as she pulled away from Luke’s hold. “Noah is very grateful you know, he told me on the ride over.”

“I know, I know.”

“Do you want to go home?”

“No, I think I should wait until they come out, I want to know if he will stay or not.”

“That’s probably smart, he didn’t look to happy to be here.”

“You have no idea.”

The blonde girl moved closer to Luke, she tilted her head up. Luke lightly grabbed the bottom of her chin and gave her a light kiss on the lips.

“I love you, Ash.” Luke said as he pulled away. “Thanks for getting Noah here as fast as you could.”

“Love you too, babe.” Ashley said back as she pulled away. She grabbed Luke’s hand and gave it a quick squeeze before walking away.

Luke waited quickly outside of Noah’s consultation room. He couldn’t believe that he had finally gotten the doctor to come and look at his best friend. He paced back and forth for a while, hoping and not hoping that Dr. Oliver would come out of the room soon and tell him his plans.

Luke couldn’t tell if Dr. Oliver had spent more, less, or exactly fifteen minutes with Noah before saw the doctor exiting the room.

“So, what’s the verdict? Is he just another boring blind guy who’s not worthy of your talents?”

“I don’t like you.”

“Yeah, I got that.”

“But Noah didn’t ask for this and his movies are going to be pretty rough if he can't see.” Reid said, laughing at his own joke.

“So you can help him?”

“Of course I can.”

“But will you?”
