~Fun Fic Friday~
TGIF! It's the day before the weekend, and what better way to close out a long week than with a fun dose of ficlets and drabbles of Luke, Reid, or Luke & Reid? Or how about some amazing icons or graphics of the guys? (Don't be fooled by the name - Fun (Graph)Fic Friday just didn't have the same ring to it.) Here's your chance to

AU (slightly rewrote this from a fic I never finished/posted)
“Another one,” Reid says, waving the invitation in the air. “This one’s to a picnic in the park.” He looks at Luke.
“When is it?” Luke asks, looking up from his cereal.
“July 4,” Reid answers, sitting at the table across from Luke. “Why are they inviting us to a picnic?”
“Maybe to celebrate Independence Day?” Luke says with a smirk. “Just a wild guess.”
Reid fills his bowl with cereal. “Yeah, but why are they inviting us? They don’t even know us.”
“That’s kinda the point of inviting strangers, you know, to get to know them.”
“We just moved into their town a week ago. For all they know, we could be two cold-blooded killers who they’ve just invited to celebrate a holiday with their children and grandmothers.”
“Fortunately for them, we’re not,” Luke says before quietly adding, “since we’re the ones hiding from them.”
Reid says nothing.
“And why are you surprised by these people being so friendly, huh? If I recall correctly, the people back in Oakdale were just as nice to you when you arrived. Remember Katie?”
“Yeah, there was something wrong with her for asking a strange man to move in with her and her baby.” Reid swallows a spoonful of cereal. “There still is.”
“Why are you ranting all of a sudden? I didn’t hear you complaining when half the town stopped by with homemade food and dessert on our first day.”
Reid shrugs. “There was food; it distracted me.”
“Well, I like that these people are so welcoming. We get to become part of the community.”
“We’re not going to become part of anything, Mr. Snyder; we’re only here until the incompetents back home deem it safe for us to return without the threat of getting our heads blown off.”
Luke sighs. “Do you have to be so graphic?”
“No, ‘graphic’ is telling you in detail about what I saw happen to the guy who was behind the car when they-”
Luke holds up his palm. “Okay, stop, Rusty, just stop.”
“It’s Reid,” Reid says through gritted teeth. “Actually it’s still Dr. Oliver to you.”
Luke drops his spoon into his empty bowl with a clang. “Hey, if we don’t want to, as you say, ‘get out heads blown off,’ your name is Rusty and you’re my brother and we’re going to go to that picnic and every other event we get invited to and act like two normal people who enjoy getting to know other people, got it?”
Reid chews silently.
“Rusty?”
“Fine, Leslie.”
“It’s Les,” Luke says firmly.
“I’m your big brother,” Reid says, “and isn’t that what big brothers do-tease and bully the baby of the family, Leslie?”
Luke shakes his head. “You’re such a jerk, even when you’re not you.”
“Good,” Reid says with a smile. “Maybe after everyone around here gets to know me, they’ll stop inviting us out so much.”
“Isn’t hanging out with others better than just going to work and then coming back here and eating take out night after night like two, sad lonely men with no lives?”
“That is my life, Mr. Sny-Les,” Reid says quietly.
“Oh.”
Reid continues eating. “I just think it’s weird that people are so friendly, that’s all.”
“Maybe if you tried being friendly sometime, it wouldn’t feel so weird.”
Reid glares at Luke.
Luke laughs. “Just a suggestion.” Luke clears his throat. “But, um, just so you know, ever since we got here, you have been somewhat civil at times and it hasn’t been, uh, that bad being stuck with you.” Luke looks down at the table to avoid Reid’s eyes.
Reid picks up the invitation and stares at it. “There’s gonna be food at this thing, right?”
“Yeah, why?”
Reid shrugs. “Maybe Rusty might try to be civil at the picnic . . . strictly for the food, though.”
Luke smiles. “It’s a start.”

“That is my life, Mr. Sny-Les,” Reid says quietly.
I love vulnerable Reid, and it says a lot that he's willing to reveal this to Luke.

I love the flirting! And who exactly does Reid think he's kidding..?
Love it!

This scene is out of my unfinished Big Bang fic where the guys witness drug-related murders (not connected to Damian) and have to be placed in protection program until the coast is clear in Oakdale.
Thanks so much for reading! I don't think I'll ever finish this but maybe I can post more snippets of it in the future.

Seriously though, the thought of them being holed up in a house together with nothing to do in the evenings but fall in love with each other sounds wonderful to me.
And in the meantime, things about the other one could get on their nerves.
"Rusty" *snort*
Great job with the prompt.

Yes! I love this type of scenario too where they're stuck together so they must fall in love. Ha ha
