Tell Me
A/N: Set within the 5/13 episode when Reid tells Luke that it's better if things go back to the way they were before Texas.
“What do you want from me? Tell me. You want me to pretend that nothing happened between us? That’s not the way I work,” Reid says. “We both know that’s not true.” He gently touches Luke’s cheek.
Luke sighs at Reid’s touch. He doesn’t know how to say what he wants to say-a first for him-but he hopes Reid understands what he means, what he feels. “Some-something did happen between us. I haven’t forgotten and I don’t want to. But me and Noah, we-”
“-are ‘trying to work things out,’” Reid says bitterly, dropping his hand and starting to move past Luke again.
“Reid, stop!” Luke says loudly, putting a hand on Reid’s chest. “What I meant was that-that we’re trying to be friends. That’s it.”
Reid stares doubtfully at Luke.
“We’re gonna be friends, always, but that’s it. Why can’t you see that?”
“I see you fawning over him.”
“I’m not,” Luke says exasperatedly. “I’m only helping him recover.”
“That’s what he has me for,” Reid says, crossing his arms across his chest. “That’s why I have a license.”
“I took him outside to talk about us.”
Reid rolls his eyes.
“About us not being us anymore.”
Reid still doesn’t look convinced. “You told him that?”
“I started to but we were rudely interrupted, remember?” Luke points out.
“Go on.”
“Things have changed between me and him, and I can’t and won't go back to him when I, uh . . .”
“When you what?”
Luke looks down, blushing slightly. He sighs and looks back up at Reid, the smallest of smiles on his face. “When I want to be with you.”
Reid continues staring.
“But I need to make sure you want to be with me too because you’re not acting like you do.” Luke gets closer to Reid. “Do you?”
“I don’t like messes.”
“So just because things got complicated, you’re gonna walk away? You’re accusing me of forgetting what happened but it’s you who wants to forget and go back to the way things were before we . . . you know.”
Reid says nothing.
“So tell me: do you want me to stay away like you told me to a while ago, huh? Tell me, Reid. I already told you that Noah and I aren’t getting back together. Now you have to tell me what you want.” Luke inches even closer. “Tell me. Tell me you want nothing to do with me.” Luke slowly touches Reid’s cheek. “Or tell me you want me.”
Reid gently pushes Luke’s hand away and looks down.
Luke grabs Reid’s shoulders. “No, you have to tell me, Reid. I’m being honest; now it’s your turn.”
“What do you want me to say exactly?” Reid says.
“What I think you want to say. Go on, say it, Dr. Oliver. Say it, Reid.”
Reid exhales sharply before grabbing Luke’s face and smashing their lips together. After breaking apart, Reid grins. “There, I said it.”
“Yeah,” Luke says, smiling, “you did.” He pulls Reid towards him for another kiss.
