“It’s only fever!”
“Says you.”
“Yeah, says me! I may not be a pediatrician but I actually have a working brain that tells me with the flu comes a fever…”
“And what looks like a flu could be an upcoming pneumonia, encephalitis …”
“…and an estranged yellow fever - in the Midwest of the United States by the way - or even the plague, I know, but…”
“What “but’s” are there to throw in?”

“But when it comes to the kids you’re losing your common sense - each and every time - warts become ‘tumors’, scratches become ‘invasive injures’ and ordinary pimples become ulcers…

“You only love us like crazy, we know… but Daddy is right, we only have the flu - half of our friends have got it.”
Ethan II smiled weakly and patted his father’s hand that was checking one of three feverish necks all the time.
“Please eat granny’s pie she brought us today and give us a rest!” Eddy moaned with closed eyes carefully shoving aside the slender, cool hand aside that was checking his pulse.
“Yeah, Papa, calm down, we’re okay - only need some rest!” Elaine added with her feverish eyes faintly grinning.
“But the door remains open!”
“So be it” the tired chorus answered.
“They are still so tiny and fragile!” he whispered outside the provisory sickbay they always arranged when their kids were sick.
“Yeah, I know! They are 13, 15 and 16 - but they are still very tiny. I get it!”
Luke chuckled, grabbed Reid’s hand, kissed the tips of those long tender fingers and hold on tight to them while he kissed those beautiful lips gently, familiarly, reassuringly until his
husband calmed down and finally agreed to eat something.
