"What?"
Reid licked his lips. you, you, you, you, you Reid opened his mouth to speak the truth of what he wanted, but his pride won over quickly. He couldn't keep his eyes on Luke's. So he looked away and sat down at the table. "One quiet evening alone....so if you're done telling me everything that I wasn't interested in in the first place..." He moved cereal around in his bowl with his spoon, avoiding Luke's gaze because if he looked at him, Luke would see his lies.
"Ya know what? You're right," Luke nodded sadly but defiantly. "This pathetic town isn't for you...have fun in Minneapolis." He turned toward the door.
"Rochester," Reid corrected him.
Luke turned around briefly. "Wherever it is...have fun. I don't give a damn." Luke turned back to the door and turned the knob.
Reid dropped the spoon into his bowl. "Wait," he said softly, without looking at Luke, but Luke heard it. "Luke..."
Luke, his hand gripping the doorknob, looked at Reid to find him with his eyes closed, pinching the bridge of his nose. His breath was uneven and shakey, and his shoulders slumped low. Dark circles shadowed his eyes. He looked tired. And small. Luke felt his anger abate slightly. "What, Reid..."
Reid opened his eyes and looked glassily at Luke before averting his eyes again. He rubbed his stubbled chin. After a few moments he looked up at Luke, who had not taken his eyes off of Reid, and sat up a little straighter. "I love you." He shook his head and shrugged slightly. "I love you," he repeated, silently cursing his emotions, as he felt a tear slide down his cheek. "Fuck..."
Luke drew in a breath as Reid's words hit him. He nodded and let go of the doorknob. "Yeah...well..."
Reid nodded, quickly wiped his eyes, and steeled his features. He couldn't believe he had just put those words out there like a schmuck. He should have let Luke walk out the door. He should have let him return to his life with Noah if that's what he wanted. He should have let him go...
"I love you too," Luke said softly.
"What?" Reid responded, surprised, his eyes locking on Luke's.
"I love you too," Luke repeated, nodding, confusion and self-recognition in his voice, trying hard not to look away. "God, Reid...I do. I love you."
Reid stood and crossed the room, his body slamming into Luke's, and his arms enveloping him in a tight hug. He pressed his face into the crook of Luke's neck. "Luke..." He felt like laughing and crying at the same time.
They went in the bedroom, made love, and lived happily ever after. The end.
