Noah stormed out of Java after giving Reid an unfriendly smack on the arm. Luke stood staring after him not believing what he just witnessed. Noah was being hostile to Reid again.
“What did you say to him” Luke asked Reid.
“Nothing. I gave him the name of a colleague in LA and he got all emotional.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know. I heal brains, I don’t read them.”
“I have to go after him,” Luke sighed.
“Suit yourself.” Reid didn’t understand Luke’s need to smooth things over.
“Don’t be mad.”
“I’m not, it’s just that he will never learn to stand on his own two feet if you keep coddling him.”
“Who said anything about coddling him? I was thinking of throttling him.” Luke gave Reid an evil grin.
“In that case be careful of that right hook.”
“Will do.” Luke started to leave but turned back to Reid and kissed him and gently stroked his cheek. “I love you.”
Reid stood speechless as Luke smiled and left the shop after Noah.
Luke caught up with his pouting ex. “Noah, what was that all about? You can’t keep being angry and bitter.”
“Is this where you tell me we can still be friends?” Noah sneered.
“Absolutely”
“We were more than friends, Luke. I’m hurting like hell and you’re not.”
“Not too much anymore,” Luke admitted, “But I was hurting for a really long time.”
Noah gave Luke a look of disbelief. “Look I know I pushed you away after the accident but it was just easier that way.”
“Our problems started way before the accident, Noah, but that doesn't matter anymore. You're going to LA. You are going to go live your dream.”
“Don’t you get it Luke? My dream to go to LA includes you. I want you there with me. You’re the one who’s always given me courage to go after what I want.” Noah pleaded his case.
“I’m the one who’s always given you someone to beat up on and take for granted,” Luke clarified.
“Come on Luke, give me a break here. I know I’m supposed to take the high road and wish you a happy life with Reid but I can’t.”
“Why not?”
“Because I figured we would get through this like we always do. We still can. Can you really say goodbye to us for Reid?”
“Yes, I can.”
“How? He’s a selfish, arrogant jerk.”
“Have you looked in the mirror? I guess that is just my type. I love him, Noah.”
Noah stared angrily at Luke then noticed Reid lurking in the background. “He’s following you. He's checking up on you to make sure you’re not going to kiss me. Mark my words Luke, he is going to control you and crush you. Don’t call me when you’re in pieces. I’m not going to stick around and watch it happen.” Noah spun on his heels and turned to walk away.
“Then I guess this is it.” Luke said.
Noah turned back one final time angry but pleading. “Don’t you even care that I have to figure LA out by myself?”
“No. Frankly Noah, after this conversation I just don’t give a damn anymore.”
Luke walked over to Reid and took his outstretched hand. Reid leaned over and whispered in Luke’s ear. “I love you too.” They walked back toward Java never looking back.
