What's a hinkypunk?

A dark creature. Also known as a will-o'-the-wisp. They live in bogs and whatnot, and they lure mentally unwary travelers to drown themselves. Pretty, but not very humanitarian.

Aren't they like... little balls of light?

Little luminescent balls of light. Attached to little brown creatures which hop on one leg to move. You wouldn't see the creature unless you got too close for comfort, though, and they won't let you. Nasty little buggers.

That sounds cool. Gross, but cool. I bet you'll find plenty.

If you think that's cool, I'll make sure to remind myself to find a Boggart for you soon. I heard there might be one in the library.

What's that? Regulus or Severus might have mentioned it once but I can't remember...

It's a spirit, of sorts. Not one that was ever human. The hide in dark, tight spaces, like under beds and in cupboards, and they get some kind of sustenance out of negative emotion. So upon seeing one, it will turn into that which you fear the most.

Great fun when Ronald is around, but in your case I'm going to keep it far away from Neville when I take care of it.

See. Cool and creepy. Or gross and creepy. Or both. I guess that gives new meaning to checking for the monster under your bed, though.

Why, what does it turn into when Neville sees it? I can handle it. I'm tough.

To be fair, it only turned into Severus at first. The green frock is what we used to fend it off.

I don't know if I'd be game for that. It'd be pretty embarrassing for someone to find out that I'm afraid of little men in pink elephant outfits.
