So I held my birthday party last weekend with some of my friends. I could've easily invited twice as many people, but as it was my party and I don't enjoy large crowds, I kept it relatively small (about 13 people came in the end). And I mixed all of my different social circles for the first time, which went much better than I anticipated. I haven't held such a big party in, I dunno, probably almost ten years, and it's probably going to be about as long wait for the next one because organizing these things is so stressfull.
But it was fun, and I managed the whole thing with just two pain killers for the inevitable head ache, which actually started already the night before this time. xp There was cleaning, decorating (with hats xp), baking, making a playlist and looking up some fun party games, which I didn't have time for in the end. But a couple of my guests new this fun game where there were werewolves roaming around a village at night.
I had a massive bake-a-thon the previous night. I baked two cakes, two sweet pies and three salty/savory pies in seven hours. Orasi helped for about an hour so it would've taken longer without that help, but I think that it's still a pretty admirable accomplishment. It's during times like these that I sometimes feel like I'm in the wrong line of studies. I probably would've made a good chef or a baker. I'm just not sure how long I would've lasted with how hectic the actual job is. I also baked some bread before the party and put some friends slaving in the kitchen making a soup, as at that point I ran out of time. That's my usual problem: I always prepare too much food for these kind of occasions, and underestimate the time that I need in preparing it. The easy solution would be to prepare less food, but I'm probably not going to accomplish that. At least there should be enough cake for everybody.
My new cake recipe (chocolate-pistachio-cheesecake) came out well, but I'm still not sure, if the compination is the best. At least this version wasn't salty like the previous one. xp The
lemon tart didn't rise up like it should. This is probably the most difficult pie/tart recipe in my repertoire. I know what I did wrong this time, so I can make annotations in the recipe. (If you want to try that recipe use the juice from two lemons and two oranges, otherwise it's going to be too zingy.) The white chocolate cookies were good, those I had prepared previously in the week. The reindeer pie, which has become one of my recent favorites, turned out good, but I'm going to go back to using reindeer from the freezer section of the store, because smoked reindeer was just a tad bit too salty for my taste. I only tasted the vegetable pie the next day, and I'm not quite sure what went wrong, as it's edible, but that's about it. Probably too much broccoli. It's a mystery because usually my vegetable pies turn out so well. Maybe I finally need to write a better recipe for it than just a list of possible ingredients to use. The Chinese hot and sour soup was good, but I can't take any crefit for that. Also, one of these days I need to post the easy bread recipes here.
The theme of the party was funny hats and people had come up with some awesome hats. But my afro wig (and tiny hat) of course beat them all. xp Also, it was not so hot to wear as you might think. I forgot to take a photo, so no use asking.I had an exam today which went well and after that I bought a 2TB Seagate Barracuda SATA (6GB)hard drive and a SATA cable for it. I'm going to pop it in and install Windows on it. And hopefully after that get my Ubuntu to work, thanks to some advice that I got from Windelmon.
One of the multiple choice answers in the exam was: the drinking water in Finland is green. You just got to love a teacher with a sense of humor. XD
[EDIT]
Well this is weird. I shuffled my hard drives around a bit, due to cable issues, and now my old Ubuntu 8.04 from 2008 booted up. I knew that it was still there, but I thought that it wasn't working. Seems to be working just fine. Must be some kind of boot order issue.
