I promice to start posting more photos once I get a better computer, but here's one to tide you over. This is my favorite of my photos from the Summer 2011.
We were canooing in the Oulankajoki river, downriver from Kiutaköngäs, on the last day of our
trip to Kuusamo. It was a hot day and I was cooling my feet in the river during one of the stops that we did during the 20 km trip.
I like the colors on the photo. It looks like you could find gold in the river. There's gold in Lapland, not much but some, but I don't know if Kuusamo is North enough that you could find gold there. I can still remember what the water felt like when I look at this photo. How lovely and cool it felt on such a hot day.
We went skinny dipping in the river on that canooing trip. We were in the middle of nowhere (miles and miles from civilization) but of course a family on a canoo came canooing past us just when I was swimming in the nude. Well, it didn't really matter because they were Finnish. It wasn't even embarrassing. It would've been uncomfortable, if they had been foreginers. It's a cultural thing.
BTW, it's fun to swim in a river because there's a current in a river. I've swam in Vantaanjoki often (in Helsinki), but it doesn't have such a strong current.
