Genes, proteins and old exams papers

I just now found out that I can listen to videos (like AMVs) on Amarok, my music player. I quite often listen to mp3s on my video player, but it hadn't occurred to me to try the reverse until now. Sometimes you just get stuck in your thinking, even with silly little things like this. But now I can mix my mp3 and (anime) music video collections in a single player. Until now I've always listened to either one or the other. Also, my mind was blown a couple of days ago while I was studying biology (long story) and I understood that genes are basically instructions on making various different proteins. And that's it. I had no idea that proteins were so important. I've always had trouble understanding those parts of biology that involve cells and things smaller than that, mostly because I find that stuff boring. I knew that genes direct how cells work, but I've either forgotten that bit about proteins or I never learned it at school, which is a possibility because I barely passed the course about these things in High School, on my second try.

Speaking of which I chucked my old High School exams a while ago. I don't know why I've kept them for so long anyway. I only kept a couple of the exams, my astronomy exam for example... I dunno, for future embarrassment perhaps? In the astronomy exam I had written an essay about the Milkyway as our solar system, when it's in fact our galaxy. Oops. It was a very good example of learning from your mistakes. I haven't made the same mistake since.

While looking through the HS exams I had to wonder why I hadn't switched to an easier math syllabus (you can take either ten or six compulsory courses). I did so badly at math in HS that I should've just switched to the easier set. I also looked at my old Latin exams and especially the later ones could've been in Hebrew for all that I understood of them now. If you plan to study a dead language, it's best to think of a way that you can use it somehow because otherwise you're just going to forget it. If I could think of some use to Latin, I'd still like to study it as I still think that it's a cool language.
