There were a lot of birds at the Summer cottage

Please answer my poll.

Poll Pick a city.We spent the weekend at the cottage. We took the sofa, that we bought last Summer to replace the old sofa, there. Another question answered: you can transport a sofa on a rowing boat. :p On Sunday we went to grandma's place to celebrate mother's day and my cousins' birthdays.

I don't remember the last time that we'd been at the cottage so early in the Spring. The ice had only left a couple of weeks ago and there were yet no leaves on the trees so the scenery looked strange. The island and lake was full of all sort of birds. I guess that the birds had their mating season because there was a lot of bird song in the air. There was even a flock of martin's (pääskysiä) and many kuikkas (diver birds). Once the birds lay eggs they no longer sing so much.

But the bird song was the only sound there. There were maybe a couple of other people besides us on the island so it was very quiet. When I stood at the pier the only sound that I could hear was the birds. And inside the cottage it's quiet as well. At home you get so used to the sounds coming from the electronic devices (like computers), lamps, automatic ventilation (koneellinen ilmanvaihto) and the cars driving on the roads outside that you only notice all that noise when it's gone. At the cottage the only thing making noise 24/7 besides the people is the fridge, and that's pretty quiet as well. I was charging my mobile at the cottage and the charger made this annoying high pitched noise. Had I just not noticed it back at home because there's so much other noise?

BTW, I hate the sounds that lamps make. Light bulbs are quiet until they start to break down. I have halogen (halogeeni) lamps in my room and those make a constant small noise. Some energy saving lamps also make noise when in use. Small things like that sometimes really bug me.
