Kanji exams and birthdays

We had our kanji exam today. I studied for it all day yesterday, until 3AM. It didn't go quite as well as my previous kanji exams but maybe I'll get a 3 of a 4 from it. There were a couple of words on it that I didn't remember, but I had anticibated that because I didn't have time to study everything so I chose the most important stuff and just skipped some kanjis. Don't try to study three chapters of kanjis in one day. That was brutal, as we usually go through one chapther a week but I had skipped three of them. That was at the beginning of the semester when I was still trying to find the right way for me to study kanjis. And it took three weeks to make my new kanji card system work for my satisfaction, but now it's pretty efficient and helps me to remember them. We have more Japanese exams after the vacation week, which is next week.

Yesterday would've totally sucked, if it hadn't been my birthday and my family and friends hadn't cheered my day. My favorite one was mom at the beginning of the day. The conversation went something like this:

Mom: Happy birthday! Half a century huh...
Me: *grins* Thanks but I'm not quite that old yet. xp
(Just a quarter of a century.)

Today I studied kanjis (yes, more kanjis, they never end) for maybe three hours. Then I went home and bought some ingredients for a cake. I baked a carrot cake with orange flavored "soft" cheese filling (sorry, but both of my dictionaries are offline at the moment). Orasi did a chocolate frosting (suklaakuorrutus) for it by this new recipe in the HS newspaper. We had fun cause the chocolate ran along the cake's edges and onto the table. You could literally lick the chocolate from the table. xp Doing a proper chocolate frosting is really difficult and it didn't really work out this time. The cake didn't taste quite like I had envisioned either, it tasted like Christmas. ^^;

Besides that I've been watching Dawson's Creek. I watched the pilot yesterday and three more episodes today. I followed Dawson's Creek when I was in High School and I kinda saw my own life in the series. So watching it now is like returning to my teenage years and it's been fun. xp I was so innocent and life was easier back then. Oh, it didn't feel like it back then. I had plenty of good old teenage angst going on with unrequited love, identity crises and so forth. But in a way it was a pretty carefree time and I have good memories from those times. I've gotten over all the major hurts of those years. So when I'm laughing at the antics of the characters of Dawson's Creek, I'm also laughing at my teenage self.

Maybe I should head to bed a bit earlier today as I only got like four hours of sleep last night.
