cartoons that I watched as a kid

My friends asked for me to send them the theme of the cartoon Maja the Bee. I got inspired so here's a list about the various cartoons that I've seen in my childhood and teen years, before I discovered anime. These are in no special order and it's by no means a complete list. The links on the cartoon names take you to Wikipedia. The MP3 links are the Finnish versions.

Cartoons on Finnish television:

Tao Tao, Chinese - Japanese, MP3
A tale of a little panda bear who listens to her mother's stories and has his own adventures as well. The artwork was beautiful.

Alfred J. Kwak, Netherlands - Germany - Japan, MP3
This time an orphaned duck who has adventures.

The wonderful adventures of Nils (Peukaloisen retket), Sweden -> Japan, MP3
A boy is shrunk and he travels on the back of goose around Sweden.

Ducktales, USA
The Disney ducks have various adventures. My faves where when they did time travelling. :p

Barbapapa, France
Colorful blobs. :p Nuff said.

The Moomin (Muumilaakson tarinoita), Finland -> Japan, (I can't believe that I don't have an mp3 of this)
There are probably no children in Finland who haven't watched the Moomins. Snufkin (Nuuskamuikkunen) is my fave. ^^

Once upon a time... Life (Olipa kerran elämä), France
This is one of those awesome cartoons that I can never forget about. I probably learned more about the human body and how it works from this series than I did in school. xp If you haven't seen it, you should really check it out. It's awesome!

Once upon a time... Man (Olipa kerran ihminen), France
Tells the history of mankind.

Once upon a time... Discoverers (Olipa kerran keksijä)
About the great inventors and inventions of the humankind.

Biker Mice from Mars (Prätkähiiret), USA
It's exactly what the name says. Man I'd get a great laugh, if I could see the old version again sometime. xp

The Ren and Stimpy show (Ren ja Stimpy), USA - Canada
I think that this was aired in "adult time" in Finland. I totally loved this cartoon about this pair of a cat and a dog.

Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers (Tikun ja Takun pelastuspartio), USA
It aired around the same time as Ducktales.

Care Bears (Halinallet), USA
I probably did watch them as a kid but I can't remember much of it. I always associate this with My Little Pony.

He-Man and the master's of the universe (Heman ja universumin valtiaat), USA, MP3 (sucky Finnish version) and MP3 (English version)
"The day I held aloft my magic sword and said by the power of Grey skull... I have the power!" Everybody knows He-Man. My brother was a big fan of the show. :p

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Turtlesit), USA
Nobody calls them by the long name (Teini-ikäiset mutanttininjakilpikonnat) in Finland. Woot for triple compound word mutantti-ninja-kilpikonnat. Donatello was absolutely my favorite character from the Turtles. ^^

Denver, The last dinosaur (Denver Dinasaurus), USA, MP3 (probably not the official version)
I don't remember much about the cartoon but I dig the opening theme.

Pokemon, Japan, MP3 and the MP3 of the Finnish Poke rap XD
This belongs to the list because I watched it before I knew of anime. I was totally hooked to the series and I was in High School at the time. Haha, dark secrets from my past. I've got the Pokemon theme in probably a dozen different languages. ^^;

Maya the Bee (Maija mehiläinen), German - Austria - Japan, MP3
A small bee girl learns to live the life of a bee and has lots of adventures while at it.

Okey, that's the list for now on the shows that have aired in Finland, that I've watched. I've watched a lot of different kind of animations in my life. I never stopped watching them like most people stop watching cartoons in their teens. I just migrated to anime after I turned 18 or 19. You could say that animation has been my preferred choice of visual entertainment for as long as I can remember.

Before I turned 10 we had cable channels and we used to watch cartoons from there as much as mom would allow us to. The channel was either Nicheloneon or Cartoon Network. I can't remember any longer. The shows were of course in English and I had just started to learn English at the time. I probably would've watched them in Japanese, if they'd been in Japanese. Audio was a secondary issue.

English cartoons that I watched as a kid (mp3s in English):

Jayce and the Wheeled warriors, France - USA - Japan, MP3
The bad guys where a laugh but this show was very interesting. I wouldn't mind watching it again as the characters where interesting and the plot was good. The series was producer by J. Michael Straczynski, the creator of Babylon 5.

Spartakus and the sun beneath the sea, France, WAV
My favorite animation in my childhood. I loved this show, I probably still do. It's a great scifi animation. The bad guys (again) were pretty laughable, but otherwise it was a great show. I'd love to see this again as I probably didn't understand half of it with my limited English back then.

Inspector Gadget, Canada - France - USA, MP3
A show about detective with lots of gadgets. If I remember correctly it was the girl and the dog who did most of the actual work in the show. :p

My little pony, USA
I did watch it but the themes were too girly for me. I preferred series like Turtles over shows like these.

Silverhawks, USA
It looked really cool and the opening theme rocks. You can find it on YouTube. The bad guys in Silverhawk where once again pretty laughable.

There were many other series that we watched from the cable channel(s) but I can't remember their names.

mp3, list, animation, anime
