A real dammed delemma

So I was reading a story today about the Colorado river and Glen Canyon Dam the one that creates Lake Powell.  The article says that the dam has helped prevent smallmouth bass deemed an invasive species from attacking humpback chub a threatened species that lives in the river below the dam.

Lake Powell has for years been at the heart of debate,  On the one side you have the drain the lake and restore the canyon lands proponents and on the other side you have the keep the lake as a fun recreation spot to enjoy fishing and boating and the cool nighttime air and stars in a fun getaway from citylife proponents.

I have been trying to wrap my head around it... so if you drain the lake you let the smallmouth into the ecosystem that was being protected by the dam???  So it sounds like more damage would be done via draining the lake than keeping it as a source of power generation and recreation...  also, chub are a subspecies of carp, as a youth I was always tought that carp are garbage fish and that asian carp are simply a menace in all circumstances.  So does these humpback chub being threatened make them automatically worthy of protection?  I mean with wolves its easy, ranchers tend to say wolves are bad despite being "threatened"

I mean honestly, which side is better to support or agree with???
