So good to hear from you, and rather surprising. I'd thought with your Bonding so close, you'd be too busy to pee let alone write anyone.
Please don't be sorry or feel that you haven't done enough. You provide an essential service to our society that has been long overdue. In fact, it is I who should be apologizing to you for not helping out more. As I find myself unexpectedly free for weddings and bahrmitzvahs, if there is anything I can do to help out, please let me know.
As for the election . . . well, it was an insane proposition from the start, wasn't it? A werewolf as Minister of Magic? Though it is troublesome to think that the majority of voters would prefer Voldemort's right hand man to me, I'm trying to view the loss objectively. Exorior never recouped the loss we suffered when Narcissa Malfoy was campaigning for her husband. I'd like to think her class won the voters over.
When do you go into seclusion? That is a requirement of your ritual, isn't it?
If you try to contact me at the Diagon Alley flat and find me gone, don't panic. We've moved out to Ben's ancestral farm in Dingle. I'll still be flooing in to visit friends and on the Council when it starts meeting, of course, and with the election finally over, I'm hoping to see more of you. Actually, we're having a get together this Thursday night at the farm (floo address is Sheehan Farm, Dingle, Co, Kerry, Iteland). If you and Severus would like to drop by, you'd be more than welcome. Kings and Gil and their children will be there. Hermione, too. She's staying with us for a while. She took our loss pretty hard.
Please don't let the stress of the upcoming Bonding weigh too heavily upon you. Just remember that all you have to do is get through that one day, and then you'll have the rest of your lives to live together in peace.
And please don't slap Severus for the smirk. I have a suspicion he'd enjoy it too much. It always bothers Slytherins more when we take the high road.
You're always so good. It was a wild hope that you could be elected, but one always hopes the public isn't as blind and stupid as one fears. My only hope is that Severus has absolute faith that Mr. Malfoy (I won't say Minister; I just can't) has changed, and has the best interests of the wizarding population in mind. I admit he's been all right as the Sitting Head of the Board of Governors for The Children's Home if a bit stingy with the budget.
I'm very glad you won't be giving up public life. We need a balancing influence right now. Especially right now.
Thanks for the invite for tonight, but, er, it's my last night before Seclusion and I want to spend it with Severus. And checking to make sure the kids are all right for a week without me, of course.
I won't be able to communicate once the Ministry comes for us tomorrow morning, but I'm looking forward to seeing you and Ben and Hermione and, er, Viktor at the Bonding ceremony. Thanks for your good wishes. I hope my dad would be proud.
It is hard to think of Lucius Malfoy as the Minister, isn't it? The world really has gone insane, there's no way around that.
I'm doing my damnedest to keep an open mind. You may find this strange, but I've been thrown in with Narcissa Malfoy a lot lately and have grown to like her quite a bit (purely platonic). She's not at all like I imagined, and, well, in light of her ability to love this fiend and Severus' deep attachment to him, I keep telling myself that there must be more to Lucius' story than what we've seen. Ben thinks I'm losing my mind, and he's probably right, but . . . Lucius had a wife and family during both Voldemort's plays for power. I suppose it's possible that he did what he did to protect them. Though, it is hard to credit. He just seemed to enjoy blood and cruelty too much, but . . . the man always was a consumate actor, even as a boy. Maybe he's fooled us all. For the sake of our world, I hope so.
We need more than a balancing influence right now. I was able to deter the more excitable members of our party from violence on Tuesday night, but I can't say how long that will last. Ben says that many of his Auror friends have quit in protest. Ben's put in his retirement papers himself because he won't work for Malfoy. Merlin alone knows what will happen with such a drastically diminished peace-keeping force. My only hope is that the Council will provide people comfort, that violence won't be the answer.
Don't worry about tonight. Of course you'll want to spend your last night before your Seclusion with Severus and the children. There will be other get togethers. You might want to tell Severus that Narcissa Malfoy is attending ours tonight. I'd love to see the look on his face.
Speaking of Severus, I saw his response to that woman's smear campaign against your Bonding. He isn't actually going to handle Rita himself, is he? The one thing I've learned about Severus over the years is that he always follows through on his promises. I hope you will keep him too occupied to give thought to that ridiculous woman's libelous charges. Rita really should have written Muggle science fiction, she has such a lurid and active imagination.
Ben, Hermione, and I all look forward to your Bonding Day, if for no other reason than to watch you show that Skeeter creature how wrong she is! Hermione says she is bringing Viktor. This is really going to be a most, er, interesting event, isn't it? Poor Gil is braced for Armageddon. I can't imagine what that Skeeter article has done to him.
Harry, your dad and mom would be more than proud of you. I'm not sure that James would have understood your choice of lifemate any better than Sirius and I do, but he would have accepted it and supported you fully the same as us. And I know without pause that your mother would have been quite happy for both you and Severus. She always insisted that Sirius and James were wrong about Severus, and I think you have proven her right. At least, for your sake I pray you have. There is no going back from the CO, but I'm sure you know all that, and I'm sure that Severus is worthy of you. He'd better be or . . . well, Severus and I never really fought or duelled the way your dad and Sirius did with him, but if he is not good to you, he will learn why people sometimes fear werewolves in human form. And I know this is going to sound strange, but I really hope that you will be good to him, too. Of all of the Order, Severus sacrificed the most for our cause. I'd really like tosee him find some happiness.
Our best to you both. I assume that you have been inundated with knives, robes, jewelery and other assorted presents. But I'd like you to have this charm. Your mother was very fond of swans. She gave it to me for luck off her charm bracelet after she found out about my nature in 7th year, and even though it's silver, I've carried it ever since. I think you should have it. It's the last keepsake I have of her. I'm also sending along a Waterford crystal decanter to annoy Severus, and because you must be showered with useless baubles! And, in case you are in any doubt, I'm terribly proud of you myself.
