Well, once again the old adage is proven true - there's no fool like an old fool.

It's Sunday evening now. Narcissa Malfoy promised that she'd approach both Minister Marchbanks and her husband with the Council idea we discussed Friday afternoon. We both agreed it had to be implemented prior to the election to prevent the inevitable violence from breaking out should either MS or Exorior win. And that Minister Marchbanks had to be seen as implementing it, because Narcissa knew Lucius would never agree to any idea I thought up. I left it in her capable hands . . . and have once a gain been played for a fool. If the Council doesn't happen today, it's not going happen at all.

Ben said I was insane to trust her. I must admit, these last few days have made me adore the man even more than I already did (as if that's possible). He could have been smug and have given me an I Told You So every time he's caught me moping staring out the window these last few days, I wouldn't have blamed him if he had, but instead, he's spent the weekend doing handstands to cheer me up. No matter what happens on Tuesday, I know I'm lucky as hell to have -

Hang on. There's an owl at the window. Be back in a sec. It's probably just another voter voicing their best wishes (or not) for Tuesday.

By the Gods, Narcissa did it! She actually spoke to Marchbanks. Followed right on the tailfeathers of the first owl, was a second. The original owl was an official notice from the Ministry to Exorior requesting that we submit three names for those members we wish to represent us on the Council. The second owl carried a bottle of Thurston Wolfe port and the cryptic message of "He's in. - N.", which I take it to mean Lucius agreed to the Council idea!

I don't know what amazes me more, that she actually got Lucius to agree to the idea or that she kept faith with me. At any rate, I am astonished, and grateful, deeply grateful. My faith in people has been rocked too many times this last month to have weathered another betrayal. That Narcissa could come through like this . . . well, it almost makes me believe that she might be right about some of the other things she said to me on Friday. Almost, but not quite. I'll wait to see.
