"Why are you following us, Severus?"
Flitwick stopped just before he could round the corner. Remus Lupin - what a shame he had to miss class every month! - sounded so unhappy. What was going on?
"Leave Reg alone. You're not good enough for him!" Severus Snape sounded close to tears. Flitwick edged closer. Young Severus was so bright, so logical, that he would never understand why the Hat had put him anywhere but Ravenclaw.
"Severus, it's his choice." Lupin sighed. "Sorry."
His footsteps retreated. There was a single angry sob, then silence.
Flitwick sighed. Young love was so hard.
