Still here and stuffs
Okay so I'm still here. I guess I'm in limbo till the work comes down the pipe to go. I talked to my civie boss and I still have my job for the next two weeks, if I'm in limbo longer than that I'll be working greatly ruduced hours as my next two weeks will be spent training my replacement.
In other news I heard about the so called "Veteran Disarmament bill" that was signed into law on January 8th. Veteran's rights groups were all up in arms over it beacuse they believe any shrink that says a vet has any degree of PTSD will be disarmed under it.
Well any one who know's me knows I believe "Gun control is using both hands." Notheless having read the actual text of the law the line people are up in arms about is hr 2640 sec 101 C 1 c:
"(C) the adjudication or commitment, respectively, is based solely on a medical finding of disability, without an opportunity for a hearing by a court, board, commission, or other lawful authority, and the person has not been adjudicated as a mental defective consistent with section 922(g)(4) of title 18, United States Code, except that nothing in this section or any other provision of law shall prevent a Federal department or agency from providing to the Attorney General any record demonstrating that a person was adjudicated to be not guilty by reason of insanity, or based on lack of mental responsibility, or found incompetent to stand trial, in any criminal case or under the Uniform Code of Military Justice."
This would be terrifying if it wasnt for the fact I'm quoting it out of context. The actual context involves it being preceeded by:
"(c) Standard for Adjudications and Commitments Related to Mental Health-
(1) IN GENERAL- No department or agency of the Federal Government may provide to the Attorney General any record of an adjudication related to the mental health of a person or any commitment of a person to a mental institution if--"
The purpose of the bill is to require government agencies to report persons judged to be "mental defectives" who have not be found to have returned to health and sainity, who are already baned from possesing/aquiring firearms. The reason, the nutjob in VA never had his mental records filed with the FBI so he didn't show up in the national instant background check. The freinds of every free american *caugh caugh* the BATFE will probly try taking portions of the law out of context but thats what we have courts for, I hope.
