- I'm a fake aunt! John's sister-in-law gave birth to a new baby girl and both mom and baby are doing great. We were in the hospital waiting room with his whole family and it was a very fun and emotional time because it was the first grandchild on both sides, so everybody was getting promoted. No doubt there will be more kids in this generation, but you can only become a grandmother or whatever once. New baby Audrey has a lot of dark hair and was very alert for a newborn. And cute!
- My mom is so excited about Obama and it amuses me. Also before this election cycle I had the impression that John McCain was smart and with it, but, uhhhh, it turns out I was wrong! Of course I disagree with his politics, but still, I had no idea that he was such a doofus. He seems so uninformed and uncomfortable in his own skin. It's weird. I look forward to Obama wiping the floor with him in the debates.
I'm unsure what I think of Palin. I still say that she's the Harriet Myers of VP picks and an embarrassing pander to try to grab the lady vote, but I don't know if it will play this way in the media. Or if it really matters; since when does America really care about VP anyway? And I am not looking forward to listening to dudes determine if she's hot or not and the other inescapable sexist attacks. I'm totally against her and want her to lose, but gendered attacks are totally unacceptable not matter who they are used against.
- The harvest has been pretty good. I'm kind of winding down for the year though, ripping out plants that aren't doing as well as they should. Next year I'm focusing on tomatoes because they have been the most rewarding. In fact, I've already researched varieties and bought seeds: one early tomato, one paste tomato, one big late beefsteak and one exciting midseason black tomato, and all plants that should stay smaller. As fun as it is to have tomato plants tumbling over the rail of the deck, they are kind of unweildy. With less pots I'll be able to give them more care and hopefully have more room to walk around too.
