Apologies for the less frequent updates! Holiday busy times. Plus end-of-term rapidly approaching. Why does everything always have to be done at once...? Anyway, have some fic recs and some random thoughts!
-if you have somehow not yet heard, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen
are appearing in the next X-Men film! THE UNIVERSE IS EXPLODING WITH

Oh yes, tell me about it! Where on earth did almost-December suddenly come from???
THE UNIVERSE IS EXPLODING WITH AWESOME, YOU GUYS.
Half of me thinks it's awesome. Half of me doesn't want them to waltz in and steal the movie from our boys. The Sirs have had their go, after all... (but mostly I think it's awesome!)
my secret_mutant fic has become extremely long and complicated. This is entirely my fault. But the thing is, I really like it!
I am looking forward to this like burning, just so you know! (You probably do already know though! ;)) And the fact that you really like it is great - it's always wonderful when readers know writers are particularly in love with their concepts, because it makes the fic that much better.
I would totally have sworn that I'd already read 'Apples and Ink' - I definitely recognise the title. But it appears I haven't, so I'm bookmarking it for later! (Too tired/late to do it justice now!)
And since we're sharing song lyrics, this one (James Blunt, 'Best Laid Plans') always - rather obviously perhaps - screams Charles/Erik to me...
You don't like it in the shadows
but you won't let me shine a light
I would wash away your troubles
But it seems
The more that I hold on
The more that you let go
And I know, you better let somebody love you
or find yourself, on your own
Tell me why all the best laid plans
fall apart in your hands
And my good intentions never end,
the way I meant
If we don't talk about the future
Then should I just, follow you into the dark
Yeah, and does your silence keep you cold
While the cracks form on my heart
Tell me why all the best laid plans
fall apart in your hands
And my good intentions never end,
the way I meant
It seems to me some fine friends have watched you turn your back
It seems you only want the things that you can't have.
Tell me why all the best laid plans
fall apart in your hands
And my good intentions never end,
the way I meant

Agreed on both counts. It can't possibly be anything other than brilliant; and yet, I want(ed) this one to be about our boys, again...they're so good together, and XMFC was *their* movie! But...the Sirs are fantastic...

I love it when you read a story, and you can tell that the author was just having a marvelous time--either out of sheer fun, or depth of emotion, but just really passionate about their art. One of those things that gives me faith in people, sometimes, that we can burn with that much creativity. :-)
(I hope mine's good, though, now that I've said that--! *worries*)
Oh, James Blunt...I confess I have to be in the right mood, but yes, lyrically, absolutely--that one's more a Charles song, isn't it? Heartbreakingly so. Especially with the idea of good intentions, which he always has. (Fleetwood Mac is my *other* go-to Erik/Charles band--I really was thisclose to using "Gypsy" for my very first Erik/Charles; would've been titled "Lace and Paper Flowers," epigraph from the lines and it all comes down to you/ well you knew that it does/ and lightning strikes, maybe once, maybe twice/ oh, and it lights up your life...)

Saw them on stage together in Waiting for Godot a few years back and they were amazing! That's an odd play, but they made it riveting!

Oh, pish. As if it would be anything else! :) I can definitely pick out the fics of mine, though, that I had a marvellous time with (those ones where everything comes together, and just flows, and you're really excited every time you pick up the metaphorical pen and add some more), and I hope that shows through in them.

You know, I think I was the only person in the world who was upset when JB announced he was quitting music a few weeks back... ;P
At the alightly more amusing end of the scale, SOS by Abba does always make me think of Charles and Erik - I tried to reach for you, but you have closed your mind (!!!) (although all the lyrics are actually quite angsty if you listen to them). And also Undisclosed Desires by Muse.

Yes yes yes. Those moments're why we're writers, I think. Well, there're other reasons too, but that...sheer breathless joy when the story pours itself out through you...it's incandescent. And I think everyone reading catches the reflection of the flame.
He announced what now? Why? I'm not opposed to his music, just not generally excited, but that seems kind of...random. What else is he up to?
ABBA songs are surprisingly angsty! "Knowing Me, Knowing You" is another good one for them. Or "Our Last Summer." Or, oh, "The Winner Takes It All." Ouch. I think I've left that Muse song as a prompt for someone...somewhere...don't think she ever wrote it. Ah, well.
*picturing James and Michael singing ABBA now, thanks for that*

I'm really glad, as I'd missed seeing Ian McKellan in King Lear the previous year (had already seen Patrick Stewart in both Hamlet and Anthony and Cleopatra).

It is a little odd - he's apparently said that he had no plans to write any more music, and wants more time to himself...

You're welcome! ;)

Kind of want more James/Michael karaoke fic now, too.
Random side note: if the We Have A Dance sequel happens, they should totally be preparing for the next show, and it could so easily be Chicago...
Things being busy for you, over there, end of term and all? :-)

Hmmmmmmm... *contemplates*
And yes, insanity reigns, right now! Both in work and out of work! I just feel like I have so much to do, and not enough hours to do it all in!
