AO3!

Oct 09, 2012 09:55

I now have an AO3 account! Same name as this one. Now I must figure out how to get the fic over there, and where to start, with all of said fic!

Still keeping this LJ as the primary actual journal, though. I like it here. :-)

Yes, don't leave LJ! It would be a lot duller without you! *squishes*

(Although I must confess that I did get excited about the possibility of being able to download all your fic to my Kindle from AO3, which means I can take it everywhere with me! \o/)

No, I won't, I LIKE it here! *squishes back* The community is fabulous. AO3 seems like a great fic resource, but not so much with the friend-making.

Heh. You will ALWAYS HAVE MY FIC WITH YOU. *ominous laugh*

Have started the process. Oldest stuff first, I think. First three up now...more to come, slowly...

I found the whole thing became quite addictive when I was uploading my massive backlog over there - there was a definite element of 'I'll just do one...more...fic...' after a while'! I think I just wanted to see everything uploaded in all its glory :)

I'll be able to read it in my lunch breaks of I so desire! (And then think fast when colleagues ask me what I'm reading... *g*)

So, no one cares how many you upload in a given day, right? I've kind of been doing them when I have spare moments, but wouldn't want to, like, spam the archive. But since they *have* things like importing tools, they must not mind people doing a lot at once...?

Sounds like excellent lunch breaks! And, hey, at least *some* of it's rated PG! :-p

(Might be new fic up today. Very short James + kilt = awesome fic. We'll see how busy today's advising hours are...)

I uploaded lots in big chunks when I was working thought backlog, and nothing was ever said, so they don't appear to care :)

Any lunch break where I can read fic is a plus for me! *g* Although at the moment I am re-reading LOTR, which is also great!

(And I see fic! Yay!)

Ooh! LOTR re-read! In honor of the upcoming film, or Bilbo's birthday? Not that one needs an excuse to read the Tolkien, of course. Hmm, I should probably find my Hobbit, it's been a while...

I've been doing a few more today, in odd moments. Have made a few edits along the way, when I've had oh-god-did-I-really-write-THAT-line? moments, too. Mostly doing oldest stuff first, though occasionally out of order if I *know* something's going to need an edit and I don't feel like dealing with it, and I haven't done any of the series stuff yet. But people seem to be liking them...though the hit counter is...odd. I kind of like it (can see that people are looking at my stuff) but kind of dislike it (ratio of hits to kudos seems...disheartening...). Ambivalence, I have it.

Fic yes. Werewolf fic, no...*sigh*

It's probably subconciously because of the film (and I'll probably re-ead The Hobbit next - wrong way round, I know!), but mostly because I haven't read it for a couple of years, and I was missing it :) (Also, have this weird thing about always having to read it in the autumn...)

Oh, I know! I refuse to read any of my really old stuff any more, as I know it would be hideous! I seem to recall just having to edit one fic I put up on AO3 because the pov switches were just awful, and I just couldn't leave it like that! Luckily, it was only a short fic!

Yes, I can't quite understand why, if you've read and liked a fic over there, you wouldn't click the kudos button to show your appreciation. It only takes about two seconds longer, after all. I always hit it, unless I've ( ... )

I am reading--half for fun, half because I honestly do have a Tolkien chapter in Academic Book Project Of Death--The Hobbit and Philosophy. I wish their tone was a bit less...chatty...but they obviously love the source material. (LOTR IS a very autumnal sort of story, isn't it? About ages passing, but hopefully, bittersweetly so--the way that Samhain used to mark the ending of the year, the way that fall brings the swirl of dying leaves but also the crackle of new beginnings, imagination, back-to-school days...or perhaps I'm only feeling Tookish.)

Sometimes I've been pleasantly surprised by my old fic. Sometimes, not. It's funny, though, the Avengers stuff has gotten the biggest response by far! I've found myself wishing I'd spent more time on those, not just banging them out as comment!fic! I really AM going to edit a few closing lines in various stories, though. GAH.

This is exactly it, really :) I find it something of a comfort read at this time of year - even if it is rather bittersweet in tone, even at the 'happy' ending. But it's something I like to curl up with on crisp Autumn days, inside in the warm, and just lose myself in...

I really AM going to edit a few closing lines in various stories, though. GAH.

Endings and last lines are the hardest thing EVER - they drive me crazy! (Also, to be fair, the Avengers does seem to have rather exploded as a fandom - or so I understand - this year, so it's probably logical that those would get the best response rate).

Sigh. At least it's not just me having that discrepancy, though; good to know...I suspect everyone has that discrepancy - although at least the hit ( ... )

It's a comfort read, I think, because it's about hope even in the long defeat: heroes still exist, after all. And so does love, and loyalty, and sometimes the good people do make it out alive, even if not unscarred...

Last lines and first lines! I loathe them, and they do not like me. I often write them last. And revise them a lot. (Still not happy with the very end of "Air". May have to poke at that one before posting.) (Yeah, I can understand why it's currently popular, post-movie! I wonder if it'll die down at all, after a while; I think XMFC has a bit, though there's enough in all the comics-verses to keep the fandom going, plus promises of a sequel...)

People're at least opening the fic up and looking, at any rate! Which I guess is something. :-p I still like the camaraderie on LJ better, but AO3 is so nicely organized, for the most part...

Oddly, I don't mind first lines - I actually quite enjoy thinking up interesting ways to begin fics, and often, it's actually the beginning of the fic that bunnies me, so I already have that planned out in my head...

AO3 is great for what it is, which is an archive. It's a great place to start when you conceive of a random hankering for some random fic - as I did when I got a bit nostalgic at the weekend and went looking for some Aragorn/Boromir although actually, there wasn't that much to find, really...)

*is jealous of your relationship with opening lines* I tend to start in the middle. Often with a bit of dialogue. And then I have to work out how they got there, and where they might go after...

Aragorn/Boromir...I might know someone who used to write that. *ponders* I'm surprised there's not more. They had such great scenes together--tension, not necessarily sexual, but just crackling with energy. But maybe it's the knowledge that B's death is always about to happen, that makes it hard to write...?

(I'm now out of new LOTR icons. Back to the One Ring it is.)
