(Actually, just as a side note, because I'm realizing this: if I'm going to put up more of the original fantasy fic, I could use more medieval/fantasy/fairytale icons...suggestions, people?)
So, I was feeling well enough to venture out for a couple of hours, and Awesome Husband and I went to see Prometheus. Random observations under the cut; not in

2. Everything else he's wearing, particularly in that first scene, is very drab and uniform-like, and then suddenly - flip flops! (And the blond hair is much better when a stylist has actually got their hands on it! *g*)
7. Particularly that one where she jumps across the chasm as the ground is opening up and almost misses and slams into the side - the pain would have made her let go, no question!
10. As you say, possibly we shouldn't be asking these questions (And I have decided that he obviously must have said "Take me to your leader." ;))
14. And that grey t-shirt - I'm sure there was a plot point in that scene, something about pregnancy? I may have been distracted... *g*
15. Maybe one day they'll actually be able to come up with a prosthetic that doesn't look like a prosthetic, and then it will be fine. Right now, we're not quite there.
16. Idris Elba was pretty cool too :) (and they are VERY THICK.)
19. I assume since she took his body too she's hoping he can be fixed somehow (which would be good, as I don't want him to be a disembodied head all the way through any potential sequel! Also, that is now my question I'm going to ask him if I ever meet him: what is like playing a disembodied head? *g*
20. It's possible I just didn't wait long enough if it's at the very end of the credits...
And really can't recommend Shame highly enough now. It's not my usual genre either, but I'm really glad I gave it a go. I tend towards the opinion that watching a film should be an enjoyable experience - which doesn't mean I don't watch serious or sad movies, but ultimately I'm still enjoying the experience of watching them. I was worried that Shame would be a grim slog, and therefore not enjoyable in any way, but it wasn't at all (unlike Hunger which very much was!)

2. It's the absurdist quality of that, I think--the movie constantly reminds you that he's not quite human. Same with the hair. It's too ridiculously like someone's idea of perfection. Which makes complete sense, of course, but I can't help thinking about elves...
7. SERIOUSLY. Maybe we should just assume she's not human, either?
10. Maybe...maybe he said whatever it was on purpose, to make the Last Survivor angry. Because the humans shouldn't get to know their god.
14. There was a plot development? I was watching the arms. And the waist. Dear god.
15. Agreed. A while ago, Awesome Husband was watching the Face/Off reality show (about makeup artists) and they kept saying that old age makeup was the trickiest one to do, worse than monsters, because it had to look real. And here, well, evidently it WAS tricky.
16. Oh, I should've mentioned him! That was one of the unanswered questions that I did like leaving open-ended: why is he there, and what does he want?
19. Please ask him that, if you ever get the chance! And then relate the answer. (Also, he probably knows how to repair himself, given the time/tools; he can maybe talk her through it...?)
20. yep, very end! It's just that quick logo/date flash, so you didn't really miss anything except the curiosity about what's happening in October.

(Another good example: Last King of Scotland.) If I fundamentally can't care about either the plot or the people involved, then I probably will give up. Might attempt to watch Shame tomorrow, then. I probably can't convince Awesome Husband that he wants to see it--I've tried once--so I'll have to do it when he's not around...

2. I can't help thinking about elves... Actually snorted with laughter! Shame he's not been cast in The Hobbit!
7. Either that or she's Superwoman in disguise!
10. Ooh, that's an intriguing idea! It's not like anyone else would have known what he was saying, after all...
14. AMEN! *swoons*
15. Am trying to think of any instance of old age makeup that's actually looked properly realistic, and somewhat failing...
19. I absolutely will! :) (I think I kind of assumed he could talk her through it - or at least through a crude enough fix that he could then do the rest of the finetuning himself...?)
20. And now I have the curiosity anyway, so it all comes to the same thing!

Yep, those are the films that make me annoyed that I wasted two hours of my life on them! (I think I watch films through to the end even if I'm not enjoying them terribly in the hope that they'll somehow get better, though, so I suppose it's really my own fault if I've wasted the time on them!)

10. Yeah, that thought only occurred to me later, but it's very possible. We never get subtitles, and of course they told him to say certain things, but he's certainly capable of saying other things...
15. ...I can't come up with any, either! Hmm. Maybe Bilbo, at the end of Return of the King? But they're already starting with an older actor...
20. Excellent, you can suffer with the rest of us!
I think I watch films through to the end even if I'm not enjoying them terribly in the hope that they'll somehow get better, though ...I tend to also leave the film on, because I hate unfinished stories, but I'll start doing something else at the same time, like grading, or reading a for-fun book, so that I can glance up occasionally and keep an eye on the movie while not completely wasting the hours!
