Harassment/Cyber bullying =/= fandom

So, today I'm actually a little sad to call myself a fan.

Because of something I've seen on tumblr. )

thor fandom, my life is so hard

This so much. JFC are people morons. In Tom's case I find it even more infuriating, because the man is such a sweetheart. He deserves more from his fans than this creepy bullshit.

I know, right? I sincerely doubt anyone means harm by it, but they seem to have just forgotten that, you know, the object of your adoration is a person too. He's got shit going on, guys! Don't demand his time or attention for all your crazy.

Although, since yesterday, this happened. I don't know if that'll stop the majority of people who were planning to send the tweet, but it's miles better as an idea. I might even tweet that myself, now it's not directed at clogging up @twhiddleston's inbox.

This new idea is actually pretty neat. I retweeted some things myself in the end. Getting it to trend is actually rather awesome, and seems to have had the intended positive effect. :)

I can understand being fans of actors and celebrities, up to a point. And that point is "recognizing that you're a fan of their public persona, and respecting that their private life should belong to them". And I know that twitter is hardly a private thing, but this (ill-conceived and poorly thought out) idea was what it was - poking a busy man and demanding a funny reaction.

Still, the new plan of trending a message to him instead was actually a sweet gesture. He seemed to enjoy it, from his twitter reaction.

This is why I don't tell anyone I'm a fan of Tom's. Who would want to be lumped in with the knuckleheads that would do this sort of thing? On that note, is their any advice on how an older (older meaning past forty) fan such as myself can avoid going to someplace like Tumblr for updates and photos? I'm not comfortable there, what with the reports of what family members said about Tom, and the dreams they had last night.

Tumblr's very much an acquired taste, isn't it? It's still the best place to go for a constant stream of the prettiest HD pictures/gifs, but there are a bunch of Facebook fan groups (like these) if that's more your thing, and there's tom-hiddleston.net. The front page of that one does list War Horse as an "upcoming project", but it does look like it updates regularly - it's got a ton of the HD screencaps from the Avengers DVD rip/gag reel.

Of course, I will say that if you don't go on tumblr, you'll miss seeing things like this. People just don't do this on Facebook XD
