i have been out of the internet loop for a very long while. like, what's happening on here anyhows? are there some lols that have grabbed you lately? i find myself on youtube watching the most ridiculous things i swear (but hey, i also watched becoming jane in its entirety on there and like, hmm, anne hathaway i like you but your british accent is weird ah well whatever woo hoo james mcavoy!)
on saturday i went to chocolate rush, the annual chocolatier event in south wharf. there were many yummy samples and super cool sculptures and stuff. the admission price to get in was pretty steep though, and even though you know you're going to a chocolate event the overload is really, way too much. it was decently crowded i think, and man, the chocolate was so, so pretty!! how are people so skilled and crafty? amazing. They had chocolate demonstrations and uh, i fell asleep during one. I felt a little sheepish about it, but i actually felt more for the demonstrator, because, poor bloke, here he is a master of his craft and some chick is sleeping through the culmination of his life's work. ouch.
another thing about super good chocolate makers is that they are all of such great quality that after a while... they start tasting the same. incidentally, when we got to the really run of the mill commercial chocolate producers (hilliers, i think it was), you could taste the difference. in a bad way.
hilariously enough, they had a whole section devoted to this guy called mcrobertson, who pioneered the australian chocoloate industry with like freddos and cherry ripes and stuff, and also founded my high school. what a cool dude.
another thing i did lately was have a birthday. it was good and chill and i ate a nice steak and had a terry's dark chocolate. i think it is a sign of maturation that i really didn't need more than that, but all the same birthdays are pretty nice and im going to try harder to at least like, wish people well on that one day because it's the least i can do. (ugh, why am i so lazy)
also recently, my sister and i went to watch the new jane eyre. on the whole we agreed that we found it enjoyable. the tone of it was pretty gothic, the lighting and photography very very cool. the way in which the script was structured was very clever, and really helped to dramatise the events of the book. for me, mia wasikowski's performance did not convince me of jane eyre's passion. for the most part she was like a doll which incidentally was totally rocking the victorian era style of dress (but seriously man, girl is thin). i felt her to be largely wooden, and her performance did not win me over at all - i'm sorry to say that it was unmemorable, which is just shit because, come on! jane eyre! jane eyre is a completely awesome character dammit.
rochester, on the other hand, was freaking amazing. he was so goddamn intense, and flippant, and worldly. if wasikowski rocked the dress, fassbender absolutely crushed rochester to his will, hot damn. as i was watching, i kept thinking 'oh, was rochester really like this?' and then 'whatever man, this guy is selling the shit out of this rochester to me', so yeah, he was pretty cool.
unfortunately, lots of stuff happens in the novel and they had to rush through the story to condense it into a feature film. this is absolutely ridiculous, because, what the hell, that movie was 2 and a half hours! but yeah, you walk out thinking that stuff needed to be explained a bit more. anyway, its not going to make you fall asleep or stick a fork in your eye, so you know, watch it. i'd like to know how someone who has not read the book or seen any rendition of jane eyre finds it. i think maybe i'm being unfairly harsh because i have too many things to compare it too.
one more thing -
my sister has a tumblr where she reviews places to eat in melbourne and her nails. i invite you all to go there and leave comments if you like, because she is pretty cool and her nails are a nice shape and i love her and stuff. also my nails were her first post, so that's pretty nice.
enjoy everyone! keep well until next we meet.
