[ His communicator loves him. Really, it does. Recording him trying to make out what the hell one of the philosophy books he has means. ]

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Wouldn't it make a sound regardless of who was there to... Doesn't this book ask any worthwhile questions? Geeze...

philosophy time, psychology time, koizumi, these books are dumb

A little. It's the most basic of philosophy questions, I guess.

There's nothing wrong with the basics. And, as this transmission shows, it still sparks quite a bit of debate.

Maybe I'm thinking too literally about it. The question, I mean.

How are you thinking about it?

If it makes a sound when you there, it would make a sound if you're not there. It's nature.

But what is sound but sound waves bouncing off our ears?

There's more to it than that. If we left a tape recorder there, it would still pick up the sound.

But couldn't that count as us being able to hear it, albeit in a very digital way?

Yeah, but it's not us right? It's a piece of equipment. It doesn't have to be monitored by people at the time. But, either way, I'm positive it would make a sound if it fell, regardless of whether or not someone was there to listen.

For what it's worth, I agree with you.
