A pair of 40s
My Thursday shift at Luce Research was canceled, but another shift opened on Sunday afternoon. I won't receive a KRCC paycheck this week since the computer used to enter my hours is broken. I will be paid next week for my Luce Research work this past week.
Tomorrow will mark a pair of 40s for me: 40 days until I leave for Furry Fiesta and my 40th birthday. I did a "decade in review" post in December 2009. I decided to do a condensed version of that, adding 2010 to recall each year of my 30s.
2001 (30)
BAD: Laid off from Business Talk Radio when studios relocated to Chicago.
GOOD: Found new job as news writer for Metro Networks a few months later.
2002 (31)
GOOD: Hired as a fill-in board operator at KRDO-AM/FM, then hired part-time as a weekend on-air announcer at KRCC-FM.
2003 (32)
GOOD: Signed up for improvisational comedy classes in Denver after seeing a Second City performance.
BAD: Mom diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease.)
2004 (33)
BAD: Fractured arm in a fall.
GOOD: Promoted from part-time to full-time at Metro Networks. Improv class graduation show.
2005 (34)
BAD: Broke wrist, knee and ankle in car accident (and totaled my car.)
GOOD: Briefly performed with improv troupe.
2006 (35)
GOOD: Took singles cruises in January and October. Heard about furry fandom and fursuits during Internet search for Halloween costume.
BAD: Mom contracted pneumonia and became bedridden.
2007 (36)
GOOD: Officially decided to join the furry fandom in late-January and adopt the fursona of Jerzei Collie. Later created alternate fursonas of Metal Dawg, Racoco W. Tiger and Kukido Leopard. Took Halloween singles cruise. Moved into condo in December.
2008 (37)
GOOD: Received raise at Metro Networks. Took last (so far) Halloween singles cruise.
BAD: Laid off from Metro Networks in October due to budget cuts/reorganization.
2009 (38)
BAD: Remained on unemployment as I couldn't find any business that would hire me.
GOOD: Signed up for FurAffinity. Joined Toastmasters speech-making club.
2010 (39)
GOOD: Bought panda kigurumi and attended my first two furry conventions: Furry Fiesta and Rocky Mountain Fur Convention. Joined Overeaters Anonymous. Lost over 40 pounds. Found new job at telephone survey company Luce Research in October.
BAD: Hours at Luce Research almost non-existant during December.
