yeah, they seem to be flowing from cracks in the walls.
i walked out today for a lunch break, and under the empire state building in front of the starbucks on the corner, was this huge fucking line. so of course, being the kinda guy i am, just walk past the line casually, past the kid, and into the store directly to the back, where i find out, they're giving away free tickets for 2 to an early screening of fantastic 4. so i got some tickets, and walked out (after picking up a free fantastic 4 keychain).
so i scored some free movie tickets, and a badass keychain that has a timer counting down to the day fantastic four comes out.
then i walked down 32nd towards the big macy's (the biggest store in the world) with intentions of checking some cologne prices, seeing as how i'm on empty. i walk in still chuckling to myself, wondering if all those people are still in line for the f4 tickets. i find a bottle of kenneth cole's black, which happened to get me quite a few compliments on my last bottle a year or so ago. i ask for the clerk to get the box out of the counter for me, when she tells me she'll give me this free kenneth cole carry-on bag with it, and that the cologne is on sale
so by now, i've got a gangster ass kenny bag for free, free tickets to the screening in my back pocket, a free keychain, and saved a few bucks on my cologne.
so i head back to the office, when an employee of the company asks me to get her coffee, because she's so busy, which they know they can always get away with since i love walking around the city so much. so i drop all my new stuff, and head back in the elevator where i meet a 78 year old man. he begins to talk to me, since he knows the ceo of the company i work for. we get along right away and he takes an intrest in my love for graphic design and advertising, since he happens to have worked in the advertising industry for 53 years. he didn't look a day over 50 at the most, and he was such a smart, and nice guy. we talked about school of visual arts and how i should be attending in january, and how he used to lecture there back in the days. i guess he took such a liking to me, he wouldn't let me go get lunch, and made me come to an art store called plaza art supplies, where he knows the owners. the man proceeds to introduce me to the owners, telling them help me in any way possible, and give me discounts whenever they can. he then insisted on buying me a portfolio to get me started on the road to design school and professionalism. the man would not take no for an answer, and when i explained to him that he didn't have to do that, that i could buy it right there, to show him that he didn't need to, he just scoffed and paid for it anyway.
so now i have the a new portfolio for my work, a ken cole bag, free tickets to fantastic 4, the keychain, and new cologne.
then the man took me to 'john's printing' and introduced me to john. told john to hook me up when i need my business cards printed, and any other jobs i get him. then he had to leave, and i went and got lunch. i shook his hand and thanked him for his generosity and kindness.
after i got back into the office and told my boss about my encounter with his friend, he told me has cancer, and goes for chemo all the time. man what a kick in the nuts of reality.
i came back to the office looking at all my free shit and thinking of all the people i just met, that could potentially help me out in the near future, and all i can say is, man what a day. the best part is that this all happened within an hour or so.
but
damn, why does that guy have to have cancer?
