[Ken was often in the park, and so when he saw the large guy sitting there looking utterly traumatized he had to come over.]

Hey there.

"Nh? Ah." [he shakes his head.] "I'm not on Istvaan III, that much is clear. Where in the Imperium of Mankind am I? If I'm indeed within the confines of it at all."

You got that right. [Ken takes the liberty of sitting down next to him.]

You're in a town called Mayfield, and I bet it's nowhere near your home or even your universe. It isn't near anyone's that I've met here.

This town likes to kidnap people and traumatize them in various ways.

"My home is with my brothers of the 16th Legion Astartes. I am from a planet called Cthonia, rather near Terra. How can a town kidnap someone? They aren't... alive. They're just places."

Terra? Cthonia? Can't say I've heard of either of those, but that's not surprising given everyone here is from different places.

Anyways, this town is, or there is a sentience that drives it. Trust me, I know it sounds completely crazy but anyone here will back me on this.

"A warp entity." [he growls.] "I've heard of such things. Fought a few. But..." [he looks at his hands.] "Not in my present state. I didn't know doing such a thing was even -possible-."

[he rubs his neck] "You're a human. All humans have heard of Terra, the birthplace of humanity, no? Or are you from some far-benighted star system that doesn't even remember the past, before old night fell, before the dark age of technology?"

I still don't know what you're---OH. Ok. You mean Earth don'tcha. [Dawn breaks over marble head. Luckily he's seen enough anime to sort of connect those two terms. What. He's not a geologist, he's a florist.]

I dunno what you'd call the dark ages. I'm from the 1990's if that helps any.

"This must be a more potent warp entity than I thought. I am from approximately 30 millenium sidereal after your own time. You're from before the first rise of man, as near as I can tell." [he looks thoughtful.]

"I'm rather surprised we can even understand one another. Linguistic drift after 30,000 years must have been significant."

[Ken shrugged a bit] I think this town plays translator. Everyone can understand anyone here. I don't know how it does it.

Oh yeah, if you have any stuff or powers or anythin', the town gives them back eventually but you never know when.

I'm Ken by the way, nice to meetcha Mister...

So you're really from that far in Earth's future? Wow, that's kinda exciting!

Lets see, what else can I tell you about this place. Oh yeah, the drones. Ok. The drones are people that think or are from this place. They also think they've known you for your entire life and that you've always been here and if you protest they look at you funny and ask if you're feeling alright.

There are however, three of 'em you wanna watch out for. The Mayor, the Police Chief, Grady, and the Smith family. One of us actually has a pamphlet that's being passed around to all the newbies here.

"I suppose it is a matter of perspective. To me you seem like you're from the past." [he listens about the drones, and frowns.] "I'll ask about the pamphlet, then. Why are the Mayor, the police chief, and the smiths dangerous?"

weiss_tank January 26 2011, 04:20:51 UTC
Yeah, Dist is handing them out so I'm sure he'll be happy to give ya one.

Mmm, they're dangerous because they can 'drone' people temporarily. Which is to say that they make them think like the drones do. Take away their free will.

Also it's been proven that Grady can do other shit too like set things and people on fire and teleport and stuff.

The Smiths...well, the current theory is that the youngest daughter is actually in charge of this place and is the most powerful.

"I see. That's very interesting." [he frowns.] "What is the method of taking away their free will?"

I dunno how they do it. As far as I've heard it's like a flick of the hand if they don't decide to torture you first.

[He shivers at the thought. He hated this ugly side of humanity even though back home he was almost drowning in it every night.]

Anyways, most we can do right now is keep our heads down and get as much information as we can.

"A wise decision. Gathering information, then a single bold strike is a very effective method of defeating a foe." [he clenches a fist.] "And that is my intent, if this place is as malignant as you say. I have work to do... elsewhere, in the service of humanity."
