18th oath of Moment: Victory and Pain

Dec 25, 2011 23:05

[ Sun rises over Mayfield on December 25th. Christmas, though it means nothing to this secular warrior. He'd won this time. Fought against the town's illusions, from Torgaddon, to the deceit surrounding his beloved friends, he had fought demon, sorcerer, heretic, and even titan. He was victorious, unyielding. The Grey Knight of Mayfield ( Read more... )

[After her wonderful morning with Fate and Vivio, Arf had someone else she needed to find. It took her a while to track Garviel down while in wolf form, and the scent she picked up worried her. Blood. She smelled blood, but she also smelled something foul. She generally associated such foul scents with poison, but Garviel should be able to handle poison, so what was it ( ... )

You're right, Arf. I am. I fought an army of daemons commanded by a sorcerer for the sake of my Oath-sworn, for all my companions here. All of those the town claimedto be fake. [ Which means he fought for her, as well, but he won't say that outright. His voice is soft, no resentment in it. He is capable of understanding, of empathy. That's what made him different from his Space Marine brethren. Why they said he was so very human. ]

So that's what that foul scent was...

[Arf closed the distance and put her hands on the armor, as if that would give her a sense of how injured he was.]

[ He doesn't react poorly, he lets her touch him, half turning to look down at her, his face pale, and craggy, expression stoic as always. ]

Arf....

[ The wound is pretty severe, he's stable but it was repeatedly aggravated by continual fighting, and the daemon-blade itself was inimical to him in some way. ]

Even a mighty warrior like you needs a time to rest, Loken. Come... Let me see to your wounds.

[ He nods his head, and removes his breastplate without much in the way of fanfare, stripping the arm and shoulder pieces first, exposing a tremendous gash in his side, and, also, the huge black neural plugs where his body interfaces with his armor. ]

All right.

[Her jaw tightens a bit as she looks over the wound, then she's trying to guide him to sit down.]

What specifically caused this - a weapon, magic or something more natural like fangs and claws?

A sword of some variety. My... armor and size had temporarily disappeared when he struck me with the weapon. I suspect it was a result of the most recent incident which was at the connivance of the town's masters.

[ He sits, an obedient wolf for the moment, meeting her eyes, his own taking on a degree of gentleness that isn't reflected in his face. ]

[Her hands are soft as she probed the wound, feeling out the extent of the injury. She learned early on how to treat and examine wounds, damn Precia. She leans in and sniffs the wound briefly.]

It's not had the chance to begin a full mending, Loken. You've been moving too much and I don't know any healing spells. I worry about infection in this place.

I must patrol. The threat might not be over... or someone might try to take vengeance. That, I cannot allow.

[ Still, he doesn't stand and try to push her away, content to be treated by her for the moment. ]

I am resistant to disease, do not concern yourself....

....

But the fact that you care is appreciated.

Resistant is not immune. [Her voice is soft as she uses her nails to cut three long thick hairs from her tail.]

I understand your need to patrol, your duty, but you will be far more affective with some rest. But I will do what I can as I know you won't listen to me.

[She braids the hairs together tightly.]

Arf... I am listening to you now, am I not? I try to give everyone a fair chance to make a logical argument to me.

[ He watches her braid the hairs together, utterly puzzled as to what they are for. s

[Her ears droop.] Sorry. I just-- Never mind.

[Laying the braid across her lap, she pulls her half-cape off and takes the clasp holding it together apart, extracting the needle from it. Then she ties the braid to it. It was crude, but it would do.]

Arm up. I'd say this is going to hurt, but I'm not sure you'd feel it over the pain you're already in.

[ He holds his arm up, but reaches out with his other hand, touching her head above her ears, halfway between a pet, a benediction, and something else, almost like a caress??? No, it couldn't be quite that tender, but there is gratitude in his face. ] You have nothing to apologize for, Arf. You have done nothing wrong.

[ He sets his jaw once she mentions the pain, and nods. ]

I am ready.

[She turns her head a bit into the touch and nods. She then takes the needle and braided tail hair to carefully stitch the wound. If he was having trouble healing on his own while moving, she would use older practices to see that the edges would stay together to mend.]

You'll still need to be careful for the next few days, but this should hold and help your body heal. It's very crude... but it works.

[ He nods, re-armoring himself. He notices she turned into the touch, and smiles a little at her. He stands, looking down at Arf, and says. ]

Walk with me. I could use someone to patrol with... and there's something I'd like to show you.
