16th Oath of Moment: Salvation's Reach

[ Action one: Park ] [ Garviel is sitting in the park, reading a few books. In this case, some comic books that he got from the comic store. He looks slightly annoyed by them, as near as you can tell for a nearly 9 foot tall giant in powered armor. ]
That just doesn't seem reasonable at all....

Specific questions?

Ah, good. Just who I was hoping to speak to. Yes. I have a friend, about your age, actually, who is in need of a science tutor, or just someone with a strong interest in science.

I see. Well, I'd certainly fit the bill but I'm curious as to why, considering how meaningless school is here. And what you mean by 'specific questions'.

That was her complaint, in fact. She isn't learning anything, and wanted to meet someone who could teach her something. As for the questions... she is curious about vampires, though I don't know why.

...vampires.

I can teach her science certainly, but where I come from, vampires are a fictional anomaly, so I won't be able to answer anything regarding them.

That will be more than acceptable. Personally I can't imagine why she wants to know anyway.

.... [ He pauses, thoughtful, then asks. } Are you perchance skilled as a chirugeon or a medicae?

That's fine then. Who is she?

...? I'm not a licensed practitioner of medicine, but I know more than enough about drugs and biology that I could function as a skilled surgeon or doctor should the need arise. Why?

Sion Eltnam Atlasia. [ Garviel chuckles at her question. ] I was thinking of undertaking a hunt for one of the guardians of this town, merely to prove that it can, in fact, be slain. I was trying to find someone who could function as our medical support as Ken, Sanguinius, and myself attempted to slay one of the strange bears we found on the highway.

If successful, I intend to bring the head back, mounted on a pike, so that we have some physical proof that the town's influence is not absolute, nor invincible.

...

[Excuse her while she decides whether or not to facepalm over this]

Loken, Sion is my town-assigned sister.

Is that your intention? I'm going to have to ask how much research you've done into whether or not this is reckless suicide, not that it matters much given how lasting death is. But besides that fact, even if I have the skills of a surgeon, I hardly have the tools or supplies of one.

Well, that is good to know. [ He pauses, then considers his words carefully before answering Naze's question. ] As for research, I have fought the bears before. They seemed vulnerable to standard firearms, though they were utterly unfazed by psyker abilities. I suspect only mundane sources of hurt affect them, which is why I'll need to probably distract my partner for a day so she doesn't get angry with me for going off and doing this without her.

I see... how does your armor fare against them, from a defensive standpoint if nothing else? If you had it at that point.

Probably a good idea. I'll be sure not to mention it to her. Rin, you said?

No, I had not yet regained my power armor at this point. Nor my bolter or chainsword, actually.

That is her name, yes. Rin Tohsaka.

Well, then you should have a much better chance. Provided such things aren't treated as unnatural enough for it to ignore.

Right, well, I'll be sure not to tell her... she seems the type to react poorly to being excluded. Of course, I don't envy you if she finds out you did this without telling her either.

I seem to be lacking in good options here. Perhaps honesty is the best policy after all... normally I would but she'll insist and I just... can't in good conscience bring her somewhere that her powers aren't work at all.

.... And yes, I had considered that our regained weapons and other abilities might well be somehow unable to harm the bear. That concerns me.

And you sure she won't acknowledge that? [Well, not that Naze would be surprised. She's run into that type]

Well, just make sure you have a good plan for escape.

Rin is a very brave and stubborn young woman. She is also proud. .... And intelligent. It simply depends on which part of her wins out, in the end.

Well, we escaped the bears last time by using a car. I would imagine that a similar method would still be successful.
