[Why is she gardening at night? Who knows, maybe she was bored, but she tilts her head at the read eyes and stompyness]

"Hrm... I see a man who has just been cast from the tower. Or is this the shadow of a man seeking to be whole again?"

Why don't you tell me, seer?

"Alas, I lack the cards to properly tell fate. However, if you wish to unburden yourself with the stories of the past, I will gladly listen."

Very well. How much do you already know?

"Of your world? Muted saying you had of a traitor Erebus and the rising and falling of mystic powers. Of a grand game that ran as long as the star athletes and the coach shared a dream, yet if one desired to shine a bit more the game would be lost to oblivion."

The game is over. Civil war has begun, and a line of flame is reaching from end to end of the galaxy. Everywhere light and truth are embattled by the forces of old night and superstition.

"The loss of a single hand that has been dealt by fate does not dictate the loss of the game, perhaps this was simply meant to cast those who would fall to shadow aside, or, perhaps it is simply the currents of destiny claiming dreams that were never to be. Either way... One should not give into despair, for that is the primary food of the true Erebus."

I shall never despair. I will always fight, until I die, blade in hand. That is -my- destiny, my fate.

"The town was... Doing things to me. Trying to make me break contracts I made and... I was in a bad place."

[She peers at Garviel]

"Perhaps, that is a form of despair. Never to evolve past death is not a fate to aspire to, perhaps it is your destiny, or perhaps your destiny lies in a different card."

Death is the fate of all my kind. We were made to fight, die, and serve. Why would I not aspire to this if in so doing my actions saved the lives of humans?

"That is not how one grows, that is simply existing as you are."

Then tell me, how would an Astartes grow without denying his nature or his oaths?

"I know not the nature of these oaths, I would have to speak with your Emperor to know for certain, for he forced you into weapons, was that simply for the purpose of eliminating all that were not like him, or was there something more noble that he did not even tell you?"

I cannot guess at the Emperor's purpose in making us, beyond that we are to be the protectors of humanity, and we all have our roles. I was to be a praetorian to his heir.

"Heir... So he did intend to evolve himself. Perhaps there is some greater mystery there."

Yes. One that I have rarely considered, but one that bears some thought. If only... I could see them all again.
