11 PM, backdated to Wednesday night. Action 1, locked to 2237 Stevens Residents: [ Garviel awakens after a day of droning, and the awakening is not a gentle one. A yell of pain can be heard, and then silence, aside from his heavy steps as he descends the stairs of the home and swiftly armors himself in his Astartes plate without a word to anyone ( Read more... )

...?

[Lancer's occasionally-used 'Something Is Not Quite Right' alarms were going off.]

Garviel? You look...a little different. Did something happen?

[ Garviel just stares at Lancer, as if trying to remember him. Friend? Enemy? Monster to be slain?] I died, and I lived. I became a myth, and was the blade of the storm. I was the one loyal man in a galaxy of traitor stars.

[...yes, something was very wrong. Lancer shifted position slightly--not yet a fighting stance, merely presenting less of a target. When you lived as he had, you learned to trust your instincts above your reason. He wasn't making sense, and somehow that honestly put Lancer on edge.]

Garviel...? What're you talking about?

[His right hand hung casually at his side, but the former Servant was already starting to focus what little prana he had. If his instinct ended up being right (which he sincerely hoped it wasn't) and Garviel was suddenly a threat, he would have the cursed spear in hand at a second's notice.]

It's me, Lancer. Cú Chulainn.

The one who claims divine blood. I remember. The one I might have called my brother, had....

[ He hesitates. ] I have seen what comes from superstition and the undisciplined use of what you call magic or sorcery. The belief in gods. I walked 3 months in a world populated only by demons, and myself.

...We've been over this, Garviel. I don't give a shit what my bloodline is; I'm just myself. I can't control who my biological father was, but I'd have made sure I turned out the same if I was human.

[He spoke calmly, though the 'might have' stung just a little.]

You're my friend, and that's not a statement I've ever used for many people. So talk to me, dammit. Tell me what the hell happened.

[ Garviel nods, he owes Cu Chulainn this much.] How much have I already told you about the time leading up to my first sojourn here? This is a long tale.

I think I remember hearing that you were supposed to be dead back home the same as I am.

[Lancer relaxed slightly, crossing his arms.]

It's three in the morning and I'm wide awake screwing around out here. It's safe to say I've got time.

I thought I was dead because my gene-father had betrayed me, as well as my brothers.

This was not so.

[ He raises a hand to forestall comment.] I do not deny their betrayal, for I was betrayed, but rather, I did not die. It would seem even a cathedral and an orbital laser weren't enough to give me rest. I wandered a world of dead men and daemons for many months, mad.... unable to remember my own name, or the name of my best friend. Babbling to his beheaded corpse, and slaying anything I saw. [ He halts, giving Lancer time to respond.]

[There were times when Lancer could give eloquent and well thought-out responses. Among those times was the rare occasion when someone would actually be surprised he wasn't the casual idiot he so often seemed.]

...holy shit, Garviel.

[Now was neither of those times.]

For how long?

At least three months, possibly more. My reckoning of time was broken at best, and everything on Istvaan III was suspect.

Damn, really...? And you wound up back here?

Yes. So it would appear. After being saved by honor and brotherhood I am once again imprisoned in this foul place.

...If it's any consolation, I don't doubt that Rin will be happy to know you're still around.

I sure as hell am.

I do not need consolation. But... I will admit to taking some pleasure from your words.

Then I'd say I've done my job.

[He flashed a bright smile, cheerful despite the situation.]

This place may be difficult as hell, but I'll welcome you back all the same, brother.

Indeed. Well, it is my intent to make our sojourn here shorter and less hellish. We have our duties to do, back in our own worlds. I have had the need to escape impressed upon me quite dramatically, you could say.
