And now we have the obligatory show-breakdown post. Where I discuss everything I watch on a weekly basis, minus Fringe, which has been discussed between my f-list and I ad nauseum. To the point where even I don't want to talk about it anymore...for a few days at least. So, I'm talking about my other loves instead.
First off:
Mad Dogs (the final two eps): Talk about fast paced. God, I loved this mini-series. Sky 1 really put us through our paces. And made all the lead characters be total dicks to each other, but it never felt forced or unbelievable. I mean, these are old friends who know exactly what buttons to push against each other. And in that final episode, where Baxter (John Simm) finally hashed out exactly what had happened with his law business to all his friends. God, I just wanted to hug him (as I always do when his characters break down), and I wished someone would fix his glasses for him. To be honest, I wasn't very fond of the ending. I did like watching Quinn (Philip Glenister) shoot the corrupt cop-lady, but I didn't like the ambiguity of the ending. Did the friends escape and did Quinn actually get shot by that guy in the suit at the end? I don't like unanswered questions! I must say, I'm sad I don't have this miniseries to look forward to next week though.
Being Human (UK): God, why does no one kill Herrick already?! No one really like him anymore, not even Nina (not really). And Mitchell had prime opportunity ALL through the last episode and he did nothing. Nina/George is love as always, and in the beginning I really loved Annie/Mitchell, but I'm not sure where that's going exactly. I mean, I never actively shipped them (though apparently many did) and it wasn't until episode 1 of this series that I really saw what everyone was talking about as far as they were concerned. But, now it seems almost unhealthy. I don't think Mitchell can really have a very good impact on Annie, the way he's going right now. Still, I have faith in Toby Whithouse and the rest of the writers, and I think Annie will end up saving Mitchell from this self-destructive path he seems hellbent on pursuing. Also, I loved the twist in this last ep with George's parents, lol. I totally woke up my dad, I was laughing so loud.
Becoming Human (Being Human web spinoff): I'm fascinated by this spin-off. Being American, I have to watch it on youtube, of course, but...god, it's enthralling. I loved Adam in the episode of Being Human that he appeared in (3x02), so to see how he tries to embrace acting like a human makes me happy. I'm also kinda shipping Adam/Christa. I really hope that they continue with this spin off and that's it's not just a one-series thing. And I really am genuinely curious to see who killed...whatever that kid's name is.
Chuck: CHUCK/SARAH WEDDING! God, I love this show. Not only did they get the couple together halfway through last season, but now they're giving us a wedding! And Sarah was so adorable in the latest episode where she finally got excited about planning the wedding once she found the perfect dress. Shows that even the most kickass of us can occasionally be girls about something. Except me, of course. And I will never get tired of watching Morgan and Alex and Casey's reaction to the two of them together, lol. At least Morgan knows Casey well enough to know not to hurt Alex (Alex is Casey's daughter). And SpyMommy turned out to be a good guy (which was good cos otherwise it would have turned into a carbon copy of Alias).
House: I'm sad to say that I don't really like Amber Tamblyn's character very much. I originally found Master's questioning of House's methods amusing and refreshing, but not anymore. Seriously, she needs to get the point: House is *not* going to change, and while honesty is always the best policy for some people (I would always prefer honesty, but I'm apathetic about my health anyway), some people need that little thing called "hope," even the hope you're offering can come across like a lie. The first rule of the Hippocratic Oath is "first do no harm," and some truths do more harm than good. Aside from that, House is as it has always been. Only with amazing amounts of Huddy to make House even more amusing. I love it.
Hawaii Five-O: One of my epic shows of bromance. Seriously, it's why I watch cop shows. I love Danny and McGarrett SO MUCH. Although, it seems to me like lately Danny has had to take so many personal days to deal with family stuff that he shouldn't have much of a pay check at all. But it always ends up coming back to the case, somehow. And I just love how much this team looks out for each other and just feeds off each other's sarcasm. Apparently, the cast really acts that way behind the scenes too. It makes me want to meet them, lol.
Castle: Still loving Ryan and Esposito the most. I especially adore how in the most recent episode, despite having orders to focus on finding the bomb, they still looked for Castle and Beckett anyway. I <3 my boys. Also, what is it with Adrian Pasdar playing something of a jerk-ish character who never turns out to REALLY be a jerk? First, Nathan on Heroes and now this guest spot on Castle. I think he has been type cast. But, this whole one step forward, two steps back thing with Castle/Beckett is starting to feel distinctly like Booth/Brennan. Makes me glad I watch the show for the family dynamic and the cases, and not the romance. Speaking of family, this last episode with Castle sending his family away kinda broke me. Cos my dad would do the same and I would put up just as much of a fight about leaving my dad as Alexis did. And Martha not wanting to leave her boy...Such a strong family unit, the Castles.
No Ordinary Family: Still charming, although I'll admit I find it easier to sit through while watching on my computer and not on my telly. I don't know why that is exactly, but I'm the same way with Bones, so it's not too much of an insult. Although, this show did give me something quite close my dream. That is to say, cast members from my three favourite show writers were in THE SAME EPISODE. I mean, we had Julie Benz (who is the main actress in the series) from the Whedonverse shows Buffy/Angel and then we had Shaun Parkes from RTD's Doctor Who (he played Zachary Crossflane in The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit) and Casanova, and we had the girl who played Charlotte in JJ Abrams' LOST. I was in fangirl heaven. It was CRAZY. And then in the last episode we had one of my favourite background actors (he usually plays people you wouldn't really think about often)-- Eric Balfour -- and two actress from Sci-Fi's Battlestar Galactica -- Lucy Lawless and Tricia Helfer. Although, I am a bit sad cos one of those two amazing ladies got killed off and my favourite guy character on the series has now left the show. Granted, he was one of the grey-area characters so that is to be expected. Julie Benz continues to be lovely though, so I will continue to tune in.
White Collar: Only one more ep to go for series 2. How did this happen?! It feels like it just started back up again. But, that's the way it goes with my shows of epic bromance. They come and go so quickly. Seriously, I love watching Mozzie, Neal, and Peter work together. My two con men with their FBI BFF. I really think I just have a thing for con men teaming up with the FBI. And I have a sick thing for one of them getting in mortal peril or held hostage cos I love how the other two will team up to come to the third's rescue. The way things are going, Mozzie might end up becoming a suit. Yeah, that would never happen, but I don't think he detests them half as much as he claims. And Mozzie's friendship with Peter's wife -- Elizabeth Burke? CUTEST.THING.EVER. I just adore it. I love my team, and I love the cons they pull on criminals, and I love my boys and just...GUH. The show will be over after next week until it comes back in July (along with my much loved Covert Affairs), and I will MISS IT.
Secret Diary of a Call Girl: To be honest, Belle is losing some of my love this series. Which is sad, given that it's the final one and all. But, to be honest, I almost always side with my boys, no matter how much I love my women, and when it comes to Ben, Belle has been pretty fucking stupid. I mean, she has a GREAT GUY who does not mind what she does for a living, and genuinely accepts her life for what it is, and she threw it AWAY. Really, Hannah? Really? I mean, she came to her senses at the end of the last ep, but all she did was send him a text that says, "Sorry xx." She could have at least called him. *rolls eyes* Girl needs to get her head on straight sometime within these last three eps. I don't want a depressing ending for Hannah/Ben (or Belle/Ben, if you prefer). And I really think that what Hannah walks in on -- what was shown in the promo -- of Ben and Poppy in that bed together is WAY out of context. Cos, so far, everything shown in promos has been, and because Poppy still had clothes on. Knowing that girl she passed out drunk in bed next to him when he was already asleep. I've kind of lost respect for her too.
Does anyone else miss Bambi? Cos I really fricken do right now.
The Office: It's getting better. I love Michael/Holly cos they're awkward and silly and adorable. Cos Holly is the female version of Michael, basically. And the humour is getting more like what I remember it being, although still not up to par with the first three series. (Although Michael's movie came pretty freakin' close. God, I loved that ep). The only thing I'm not really enjoying about this series is that Jim seems rather absent from most episodes. Is John Krasinski really busy with other things or something? He's only in like 3 mins (at most) of each episode (with the exception of these last two). I still find the idea of Erin/Andy adorable, though I don't really ship anyone in The Office fandom now that Jim/Pam are married. But I love Pam as office manager and the way she looks after Erin (hell, Erin herself is just plain adorable).
Also, cameo by Ricky Gervais? My life = made.
The Vampire Diaries: The only thing keeping me tuned into this show lately is Damon (cos Ian Somerhalder is GORGEOUS and always will be) and Caroline. I mean, Elena and Stefan still bore me to tears and I personally hope Katherine kills Elena cos she's much more intriguing to see portrayed. However, I must give props to Nina Dobrev as an actress cos the look in Katherine's eyes is entirely different to Elena's and that's amazing to see done. She and Anna Torv are both just stellar at making people with identical looks into entirely different personalities and mannerisms. My only problem with this series lately has been too much focus on werewolves vs vampires, which is SO OVERDONE in vampire mythology stories, and the fact that this plotline with the doppleganger has been drawn out too long. I mean, I get WHY they're doing it that way -- gives the season an overall arc and all -- but it means that half the episodes have virtually NOTHING happening in them. If there were standalone events happening, that would be one thing (something I am glad my two main obsessions of Fringe and Doctor Who do very well), but there aren't any. So, we're getting multiple episodes of failed attempts at killing Originals, which they know from research won't work, and lots and lots of what turns out to be pointless dialogue. To be honest, when they announced that the show wouldn't be back until April, I didn't feel any strong impulses to HAVE to be in front of my telly. The cliffhanger just felt kind of...blah.
Nikita: Thanks to this show, I am proud to say that I have an obsession waiting in the wings if Fringe doesn't get renewed. I just love...everything about it. I already have a shipping less than one series in (they're not OTP status yet, but they are definite ship status), and the plot line, despite being a rehashing of La Femme Nikita and Alias still drags me in with no problem. Cos we have not one female BAMF, but TWO. Nikita and Alex, and I care about them both. And I wouldn't fancy finding myself in a fight with either one of them. Okay, maybe I would -- to see how long I would last (chances are, not long). But this show has EVERYTHING. Secret, corrupt gov't organizations, lots of gunfire and hand to hand, BAMF HBICs, women who can see inside your head, creepy Russian syndicates, double crosses, and the forbidden love thing. God, I love the idea of Mikita SO MUCH (and the showrunners have confirmed that it is SO happening). And the cliffhanger they gave on this one DID have me screaming at my telly, which is amazing considering I saw the cliffhanger coming the second the episode started. It ended with Michael finding Nikita's hiding place and pointing a gun at her, saying, "Guess how I got here..." GODDAMNIT!!! Needs to be 7 April NOW...although, it hardly matters cos I'll be in Germany at the time anyway.
Bones: I will admit that I've been happy with the subplots on this show lately. When it came back from hiatus, we got eps focusing on Sweets (my fave boy) and then the week after that, a case that focused on Cam (my overall fave). I am, as usual, apathetic about the romance subplot (there's enough fans going schizo over that; I feel no need to add to the number), but I do so love emphasis on the Squints. Although, seeing that one slightly reserved Intern opening up really freaks me out still. I still dearly love Fisher (cos he's me, if I was a dude). But WHERE THE HECK IS VNM? I need my random knowledge geek! He's my soul mate, and I want him back like YESTERDAY.
Skins: God, could I love Generation 3 more than I do? I think NOT. Franky continues to be my favourite. She is like...my soul sister. I have never seen a character so much like me before (except for maybe Joan Girardi). But Franky is the girl that all her friends go to for comfort and advice, and she's kind of quietly THERE for everyone, and while she may not have all the answers, she's an ear and a friendly hand to hold. And she's gorgeous and lovely, and while she likes to have a good time, she doesn't like people touching her unless she's said it's okay. And everyone secretly thinks she's a dyke cos she doesn't chase after boys and she wears boyish clothing (I've SO been there). This last episode when Liv just held Franky's hand after that guy tried to feel Franky up at Alo's party, just...god, I wanted to hug them both cos I loved them both SO MUCH in that moment. And I actually like Mini a little bit this last week too and I have no idea how that happened. Seriously, I thought I hated her, but she's starting to grow up. And Grace/Rich is love and so is Matty/Liv. Franky just needs to find herself someone and I will be totally happy cos she gorgeous and she NEEDS somebody.
Rich reminds me SO MUCH of my brother that it's just not even funny. If my brother could find a girl like Grace, I would be so happy for him. The ep that focused on Rich had me fangirling cos my brother is a hardcore metal head. Which means I am something of a metal head myself (though nowhere near as strong, but I can follow metalhead conversations really easily). When the record store owner made that comment about, "I'm going to tell you what I told Dave Mustaigne in 1983 -- if you were less of an asshat, people would like you more," I about died laughing. Cos it's SO true. Dave Mustaigne (lead singer/songwriter of MegaDeath and former guitarist of Metallica, for those who don't know) is a whingy bitch. Even my brother, a huge MegaDeath fan, says so. And then they played Iron Maiden's "Fear of the Dark" at the end of the ep. And, as some of you know, I am a HUGE Iron Maiden fan. ;)
Alo's mum is a bitch. I still don't like her, and I kind of hope that she randomly drops dead or that Alo punches her out one day.
Supernatural: Finally, this last week had an AMAZING episode. Seriously, getting sent to a reality where Dean and Sam are Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles was absolutely BRILLIANT. This season has been so sub-par on the whole that I had begun to forget why I enjoyed it so much in the beginning. And that reason was that this was a show that can make fun of itself. I was a bit saddened that Misha Collins died in the ep, but I love how he was described as "the beautiful, crying man," by the guy who reported his murder. The only thing this ep needed was Jim Beaver (who played Bobby Singer) as himself. (oh, and also to note, I loved having the part with Misha twittering all the time. Cos, as my friend Ashley in ini followed him and kept me up to date, he really does twitter ALL the time). Plus, jokes about how Canadian everything is never gets old. It was weird though to see Genevieve Cortese's name show up as Genevieve Padalecki now. Took my brain a minute to register, lol.
CSI NY: I still love Mac Taylor, though it is hell trying to catch up with this show via video rewind on cbs.com (seriously, that website sucks). I actually got a bit emotional at the end of the latest ep when Mac said that he would claim the body of the girl on the slab (she had reported a crime she had seen almost a year before, and she was killed for that reason and had no living family or known friends). I just love him cos he cares about the people he comes across in his investigations. It's why CSI: NY is the only CSI series I still keep up with out of the three. And I still love watching Danny and Lindsey, and Sela Ward is still doing a great job taking over for Kanakaredes. Oh crime shows, you never change...
And I think this Sunday, I will start checking out Breakout Kings on A&E cos it's about con men catching other prisoners who have escaped from prison. And well...you all know how I am about my con men. :)
ALSO, I am nearing my five year anniversary of being in love with the Doctor (as of March 17), so I NEED SOME ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION IDEAS, FLIST. What can I do to show this amazing alien what an impact he's had on the last five years of my existence?!
