Fic - BSG - One for the Road

I'm an idiot.  This was supposed to be for sf_friday48's challenge this week, but for some reason, I had it in my head that entries were due today, rather than yesterday.  I suck a lot, but as it was half written already, I figured I'd finish.  Anyway.  Not my favorite piece, but it needed to escape my system.

“I thought you said you liked it!” he exclaims instead.

She rolls her eyes and sets the bottle safely down on the coaster. “I was being polite.”

“First time for everything,” he grumbles. Hee! I am so amused by their interaction, but worried that the bright flash of light was the world being blown to bits and them dying tragically. Which would be quite tragic indeed.

If Lee dropped the military thing because of Zak's death and Adama's roll in in it, then I'm sort of surprised Kara didn't track him down earlier. Or maybe she tried and he was being sneaky, or I just misinterpereted it all together.

But I really did like it :D

Yep, that's what the light was. Because if you don't know how else to end something, you might as well blow your characters up. :-D

I didn't make it clear in the fic, but Lee didn't drop it right after Zak died, but rather a year or so later. In various backstory, it's been said that he never really wanted to be in the military, which made the fandom go wtf?, so this is sort of my explanation for why he might've hung around.

As for Kara, well, she's just a bundle of issues when it comes to Adamas. *g*

Glad you liked it!

Ahhh, so in all of that canon I've yet to see. Interesting. ;)

And hey, I'm all for a good explosion.

...now I'm wondering why, if Lee didn't want to be in the military he's so damn good at it. Is it because of his generally must be the best I can be nature and they're the only one's that will let him fly a viper? Or something strange and perverse?

Yeah, that was the general reaction in the fandom. My take on it is that he's a classic case of oldest child syndrome - a total perfectionist - and maybe, also like me, not really sure what he wants to do, so he keeps plugging away at what he knows he's good at. And I think he genuinely enjoys it, but he's got all kinds of bitterness and angst tied up in it.

...yeah, Lee's not my favorite character, but he's the one I identify with the most.
