Christy Hemme smoothed out her hair, meeting Trish at the day spa. The two women would then take lunch with a prospective client after Trish had received an e-mail from Amy confirming that the woman’s case was legitimate.

After they’d met her and decided that they could do business with her, the two women headed back out; intending to meet with Amy and Jamie.

“So this is just money laundering?”

“In a sense,” Trish replied, the blonde woman in the passenger’s seat. “We’re taking his money to give to her and then setting him up so he looks like the criminal.”

Christy frowned slightly, “so we need to set up a bank account for her, pull the rug out from underneath him and leave him to dry?”

Trish nodded, “exactly. But the main problem is, he’s not just some office lackey.”

“We’ve taken down the big guys before.”

“Not to this extent.”

Christy drummed her fingers against the steering wheel while they waited at a red light. “But we’re still doing this, right?”

Trish slipped her sunglasses on, “damn right we are. She’s letting us keep 35% of whatever we take and she wants a minimum of 1 million. We haven’t had this kind of opportunity in months.” Checking her phone, the blonde woman frowned. “I hope they’re home.”

“I’m sure they are,” Christy said and then shrugged, “where else could they be?”

“Any number of places for all we know,” Trish tamed a few strands of wayward hair, “but we might as well check the house first and then go from there?”

The redhead nodded, heading towards Livonia and to Amy and Jamie’s. Normally they knew that unless there was some type of emergency, the two women would be home. Or at least one of them would be.

Ever since they’d known Amy, they’d just come to expect that the older redhead was unpredictable. Not in an entirely chaotic sense but more of a disorganized fashion. Jamie, at least, was a bit more sensible, the two roommates keeping each other’s personalities in check.

“Whose car is that?” Trish questioned as they pulled up the house.

“I have a feeling I know,” Christy replied, eyeing the car that was parked next to Amy’s. “We’ll find out anyway.”

Christy had grown up with Alex, Chris, Josh, A.J and Amy while they’d met Trish and Jamie in college. And while Christy and Josh had maybe been a little rebellious, Amy and Alex had been fortunate to graduate high school on time, the two always in and out of trouble.

“Hello?” Trish called, walking towards the backyard fence, “anyone home?”

“In the backyard!” Jamie called back from inside the shed. “Sounds like Trish is here,” she commented to Josh, the blonde man shirtless and sweaty, “you remember her, right?”

Josh shrugged, more occupied with moving a particularly heavy box, “vaguely. Probably met her at parties or something…”

“Jericho’s numerous parties?” Jamie suggested helpfully, an eyebrow arching when Josh made a face. “You have a problem with him?”

“He’s a cop, J…” Josh shook his head, “nothing against him as a person but, you know.”

Christy’s hands were on her hips as she and Trish walked into the backyard, “Joshua Sabin… what are you doing here?”

“Visiting,” and when Jamie elbowed him in the ribs, he quickly added, “for a while.”

“And where’s your partner in crime?”

As if on cue, there was the unmistakable sound of flesh hitting flesh, Amy cursing-

“What is she saying?”

“Something in Spanish,” Jamie clarified, “about Alex being an idiot and how she’s going to kill him…. The usual, really, given how those two are.”

Alex ran out of the house, a handprint shaped mark on his chest, “for the last time you crazy woman, it was an accident!”

Amy narrowed her eyes, tossing her hairbrush at his back, “and that’s supposed to be a good excuse? You’ve been in that house I don’t know how many times and yet you can’t tell the difference between my bedroom door and the bathroom?”

“It’s been a while!” Alex fired back, the two standing near the pool by this point. “And besides, it’s nothing I haven’t seen before.”

“So help me, Shelley, I will castrate you.”

“You’d miss it too much to ever do that.”

“Oh get over yourself.”

“Blow me.”

“You wish.”

Christy coughed loudly, “Hey Ames…”

Amy turned towards Trish, Christy, Jamie and Josh and smiled, “hey guys.”

Alex rolled his eyes, “should have known it was that time of the month. Usually you go from zero to bitch in five minutes, not less than.”

“I’m sorry but was anyone speaking to you?”

While they continued to argue, Trish rolled her eyes, “anyway, do we have a set list for tonight?”

Jamie shook her head, picking up the hint that they had a new client. “Not yet, but we can get that started?”

Christy and Trish both nodded, heading towards the house, Jamie pecking Josh’s cheek, “Just keep doing what you’re doing. I’ll be back.” On her way towards the back door she grabbed Amy by the elbow, effectively ending the argument.
