Tags After a twenty minute drive from Livonia, Amy and Jamie were back at the bar, opening shortly after 5:00 p.m. and already spotting a few cars and regulars in the parking lot.
“Well, well, well,” Christopher Daniels remarked, the bald man behind the bar with Amy, Jamie and Mickie; the latter having returned early from her vacation. “Look at what the cat dragged in.”
Alex smirked, seating himself at the bar, tossing his iPod to Amy. “Nice to see you too, Daniels.”
He arched an eyebrow, “who said it was good to see you?” Smirking he set two coasters on the bar. “What can I get you two clowns?” And in a near whisper he added, “on me. But after that you’re on your own.”
Amy set the iPod in the speaker dock. “I reserve the right to take this out if your taste in music sucks.”
“You won’t,” Alex said, leaning forward on his elbows. And then to Daniels, he continued, “whatever’s local…. And cheap so I can still drink after.”
“Just water for me,” Josh said when asked, “I’m driving.”
Chris simply nodded to the two, “so, what brings you two back home?”
Josh shrugged, “usual. Needed a change of scenery…”
“He owes people money again, right?” Chris guessed as he set the beer in front of Alex.
“Bite me.”
“No thanks, dude. I don’t know where you’ve been lately.”
Josh cracked a smile, “don’t worry, he’s clean… just had a bath recently.”
Alex scowled, taking a long pull from his beer before picking at the label. “Go fuck yourself.”
Chris laughed, “wow, he must really be out of it when he can’t come up with anything better than that.”
The bell above the door rang, indicating new patrons, Mickie waving to A.J and Chris, setting two coasters down at their customary spots at the bar.
“Evening officers,” Daniels greeted, already getting their beers. “First drink is on the house.”
“We just got a raise,” Mickie whispered loudly. “Amy and Jamie are in good moods, apparently.”
Jericho rested his forearms on the bar, “how was your vacation, James?”
Mickie shrugged, “it was over too soon but glad to have gotten away,” an eyebrow arched, “you and A.J look beat though.”
A.J grimaced, “Chief is coming down hard because of that recent crime spike. We have no real leads, so we can’t make much of a move.”
Mickie nodded slowly, wiping down a section of the bar, “I’m sure you’ll get to the bottom of it eventually.”
Jamie and Amy appeared from the kitchen, each carrying a hot dish, the two setting the dishes on the bar.
“Free samples,” Amy clarified, handing each of the four men a fork, “J’s trying out a new recipe and if it works, we’re adding it to the menu tonight.”
With that, they dug in, the recipe received well amongst the four and as the redhead stated, the item was soon added to the chalkboard menu; Amy and Jamie returning to the kitchen to start getting ready for their usual 7:00 p.m. crowd.
