Otego, New York

After convincing Amy that this was worth the visit, not that it took much to convince her older sister anyway, the two sisters took a day trip to see their newly acquired farm in Otego. But, since neither of the two had much recollection of visiting the farm, they followed the directions from the print-out map that the family lawyer sent.

“So, what exactly are we going to do with 50 acres of farmland?” Amy questioned, glancing at the scenery. “Seriously, we’ve lived in or near the City for most of our lives. What do we know about operating a farm?”

“It’s like I told you before we left, Ames, we can open a doggy day care,” Jamie beamed, the blonde currently driving. “This is our chance to pursue our dream.”

Amy shrugged, “can’t really argue with that…”

Jamie nodded, “we could also start the agility training, foster dogs…”

“Now you’re just resorting to bribery,” Amy said and then smirked, “but it wouldn’t hurt to try. Plus, our lease is up soon.”

“Uh huh, and we’d only have to pay property taxes, plus whatever else we need to get set up,” Jamie tapped her fingers against the steering wheel. “We’ve still got some money left over from grandma and it’s not like we really went anywhere so we’ve got some savings.”

Amy frowned a little, “we’ll be lucky if we break even in the first year though.”

Jamie wasn’t too concerned, “then we make ends meet by whatever means possible. According to the letter, the property has a small apple orchard and a vegetable garden, so we could try our luck at a farmers market or something.”

“I guess,” Amy stretched her arms out, the two soon entering Ostego County, “and don’t try to tell me that part of the reason you wanted to move is because it’s near the Baseball Hall of Fame.”

“That might have been part of the appeal,” Jamie admitted freely, “but we also needed the change of pace. Especially you.”

“I was fine.”

“No you weren’t, Ames, you were barely eating because you were working so much.”

“Had to pay the bills, and rent,” Amy reminded her, “but we survived and we’re both still in one piece.”

Jamie grumbled under her breath, but didn’t argue further, the two soon reaching their destination. They’d arranged to have the house keys left in the mailbox, the blonde pausing her car at the beginning of the long driveway to retrieve said house keys.

“Home sweet home,” Jamie said as she continued down the driveway.

“House isn’t bad,” Amy slipped her sunglasses off as the car pulled up to the house. “And the property is still being taken care of.”

“Seasonal workers,” Jamie explained, “they were still under contract when Aunt Millie died and agreed to stay on.”

Amy threaded her hands through her hair, “that was nice of them, saves us some trouble anyway.”

Jamie hummed her agreement, the two next heading inside to inspect the house. Between the furniture in the apartment and in storage, they hoped that they would have enough to get by. And much to their delight, their aunt had left a complete dining room set along with all of the pots, pans and kitchen appliances.

Next they inspected the upstairs, each claiming a bedroom and designating the master bedroom to use as an office for the time being.

Once they were done looking at the house, the two sisters took some time to explore the property, making plans for the use of the barn and extensive grounds.
