This past weekend was the first we had free all summer. I took the opportunity to clean my studio and go through the piles of drawings that have accumulated in the past two years. I make it a practice never to put them away before they are properly photographed and posted to my website, so for those of you who used to peek, there are loads of new ( Read more... )

Actually, I only have one talent ... that is the ability to fake many talents.

*blush* I am embarrassed to tell you. $15/hr. A couple of us have been telling the coordinators of the group that it really is time to increase the model fee to at least $25/hr [$50 a night of a 2 hr session], but they are ... frugal [aka cheap tightwads]. Honestly the models we get do it more for the group than for the money, or they want the experience to then go to art schools with something on thier resume [or cv, for those non-US residents].

Of course these are AMERICAN dollars, which in today's market is worth ...

I'm surprised you even pay .. American dollars or otherwise! Like you said, I would have thought models would do it for their love of the art!

More money would get us a wider variety of models, not that the models we have are bad, it's just that after so many years it's getting to be the same-old same-old.

Right now we have a core group of 9 models ranging in age from 20-ish to close to 70. Actually two of the younger guys are the sons of one of the older models, and one of them goes to college with my son. One of the ladies just started modeling again after having a mastectomy, and the oldest keeps saying he's not modeling again because if his kids found out, they'd be upset. The newest model is a cutie, but she probably won't stick around too long. She's a recent college graduate and I fear as soon as she gets a full-time job she'll stop. Employers are not keen on having life-models on staff for some reason, especially if they are school teachers.
