Okay, Inception fans, I need your help because I'm totally obsessing. Is Miles Dom's father or father-in-law? My thought was the latter, but I fear that's because I'm going by a bunch of old-fashioned societal "norms".
- Miles doesn't appear to share the same last name as Dom. Miles introduces Dom to Ariadne as "Mr. Cobb", and there's no look of recognition from Ariadne at the last name.
- Dom calls him "Miles", not "Dad".
- During the phone call between Dom and his children, the grandmother taking care of the kids doesn't want to talk to Dom, has told the kids that Dom is not coming back, and doesn't let the kids talk to him for very long. This seems more in line with what I would expect from the parent of the person who died. Although maybe if she believes Dom is not entirely stable, she wants to shield the kids from him.
- All the mentoring-related statements (e.g., "You never did like your office, did you?" "I'm doing what you taught me.") refer to dreaming, stuff not necessarily learned at a caregiver's knee. (In my head, Dom took classes about dreaming from Miles and that's how he met Mal.)
(Unrelated bonus newbie question: Is it canon or fanon that Eames's totem is a casino chip?)
