[Luna is currently in her room, laying out fluffy pieces of... knitting. Hats, mittens, scarves, and socks, they're all in rows on her (neatly made) bed, and she opens the journal to use its little picture function to show them off. All of them are bright and colorful, many of them have wacky color combinations and patterns, but there are some that ( Read more... )

Do you want anything? I think I have some red ones in here somewhere.

[Well you just think of everything, don't you. But he is a bit surprised at her particular offer; was it just a coincidence, or did he actually tell her he tended to favor red? He can't seem to recall.]

...I'm sure you do. You certainly have every other color.

[Just a coincidence, but red looks good with your monochrome colors, Ramirez. She notices these things. Also she knows you don't like flashy combinations.]

Oh, and would you like a scarf?

It doesn't matter; I'll trust your judgment. [Don't make him regret saying that, Luna. :C]

...I don't have anything for you, though.

[Pause. Blink. Then she gets it.] Oh! I don't need anything, it's all right!

It's bad form to keep accepting things without giving you something in return.

Is it? Hmmm, that's peculiar. But if I don't want or need anything, then I don't have any reason to take something, so...

[Excuse her, she's going to have to ponder this for a moment.]

[Luna, you are just straight up impossible.]

...There must be something you like.

[Really. You're a girl. Girls always want things.

...Upper City girls do, at least. Urgh. Let's not think about that.]

There must be... Oh! Yes!

[And she smiles, and Ramirez is probably about to feel his heart break, because what she says actually says a lot about her life so far.]

Friends.

[...For such a happy girl, you are awfully depressing. A look of surprise crosses her face for a moment at her answer-

And then he just looks upset. Because while he may not understand a lot of social nuances, he does know the feeling of isolation. He recalled being told something similar before, but somehow, the idea of her having to experience a similar loneliness didn't sting as much as it did now. He had adapted to his home's seclusion eventually, but Luna...

She wasn't anything like him. She didn't deserve to have to learn to live with such a feeling.]

...I see.

[She had adapted very well herself, actually - or, more precisely, she'd never known another way to live. But she's really all right with it, and now - now she does have friends.]

It's very nice to have them, don't you agree?

...Yes. [But he's not optimistic like her, so his answer doesn't sound particularly happy. All this talk of friends just brought Fina to mind.

Fina. Ugh, he didn't want to think about her. He wasn't going to see her again anyway, even if he did return home; there was little point in pining after her.

Or so he tries to convince himself. But the thought of Fina's face made his heart wrench all the same.]

[You should really know better than that, Ramirez. Because the next words out of Luna's mouth are very predictable.]

Are you all right?

[You're the one who brought it up. :|

And the obvious answer to that question is no. He's not. In fact, he kinda looks like he's about to freaking cry. It's a bit telling in the fact that this time, instead of attempting to gloss over whatever was apparently bothering him, Ramirez just brings a hand to his face and says-]

...I-I'm sorry.
